Hid ticket!!

I just got a ticket for my McCollough 6k HID's!!! the cop wrote me a ticket for having "blue lights". He also gave me a ticket for changing lanes without a turn signal. I want to know if that is a point or not. I really hope it isn't. And are the HID's I got illegal? Believe it or not I got stopped again the same night, another cop pulled me over for my HID's again and I showed him my ticket, he goes in his car for a while and then writes me up for my modified exhaust, its legal because I have certification compliance papers saying it is. I got it from a state referee and the cop didn't bother looking at my papers, and he automatically said my papers were fake and you can't have a modified exhaust blah blah blah. Anyways what can I do? I know I can get my exahust signed off cuz I have papers. But is there anything else I can do. Luckily I wasn't speeding too.

Wow that blows, but sale of HIDs are now illegal and have been for a while. Getting blue tinted ones is just asking for a ticket. I've had mine in for a week now and still no cop trouble cause white blends in with other high end cars. Did your kit come with any paperwork saying it's dot approved or something?

Dont have your exhaust ticket written off becuase you will have to pay a $10 fee for that. Just go to court and show your papers from the STATE REFEREE and that might help with getting your headlight ticket from him being dismissed as well.

As far as HIDs go, unless you have a retrofit kit from a high end car or it is really close to other stock HIDs, you are basically lookin for a ticket now-a-days. Sad to say, but its becuase of the peoples that never adjust them and have them angling all over the place when they drive.

i don't think the HID ticket is a point of but the changing lanes without a turn signal is, so u should take traffic school for that. The HID might be a fixing ticket or u just get fined

I really dont mind the fix it ticket but the thing I do mind is the turning without a signal I really hope it isn't a point my friend told me its not or something, maybe the judge might dismiss it. Can anyone look it up and tell if its a moving violation or not cuz I dont want another point on my record, that is a really dumb thing to get a ticket for and I dont want my insurance to go up either.

For one point you can go to traffic school. I did when I got my first speeding ticket. I think you need to go to your court date and ask for it.

Oh and actually the SALE of hid is illegal now. The kit I have says right in the paperwork that they're DOT approved. If the actual lights were illegal, all those bmw, lexus, etc would get tickets. There's no difference.

so... what about modified bulbs (MTEC 2x is what I have). They have a blue tint to it, but the beam is more white... Damn, this is making me paranoid.

Well as long as the light is white, which I think mtecs are, cops can't touch you. It's the blue and purple bulbs that they love writing tickets for.

I've had HID projectors retrofitted in my car for over a year now. I just blend in and NEVER had any problems with them...cops think it came like that from the factory.

No HID kit is DOT certified, not even a retrofit. They never were and never will be, so you can't make a case that it was a legal modification to the judge. Not a slam, just letting you know how it is.

All "aftermarket" kits are illegal to sell now. This is defined as any kit that replaces stock halogen bulbs with hid in the factory headlight housing. Now I'm wondering what happens if you bought the kit before the ban.

Also, the kit I have is OEM equipment in Japan, so I could argue that it's not aftermarket (which is true). I even have papers with dot approval of ballasts and igniters.

Now with your kit, it's gonna be really hard to justify it. The only way around the law would be to get a white 4000k range kit that will just blend in. I doubt cops will pull someone over for white headlights, even if they seem bright.

who cares it should be just a fix it ticket, swap out to stock bulbs, get it signed off then put them back and wait till you get another fix it.

as for the turn signal, yeah its most likely a moving violation. its probably one of the real minor ones so i doubt it'll be 200. if its your first offence probably like 100.

Do you think I have a chance if I tell them that the turn signal is the same color as my brake lights? And I was making a lane change while I was slowing down, because I saw the cop behind me before he pulled me over and my natural reaction when I see a cop is to slow down. And I tell them that I dont know if I used my turn signal or not, I always use them though and it comes second nature to me like putting on my seat belt. I am more concerned about the turn signal cuz I know I can just swap out the bulbs.

yeah if it doesn't come with hids stock, it technically illegal for our cars. If you wanna keep your hids, get the ones that are 4300k. Thats the same kelvin range that bmw's and mercedes use. At 4300k its more of pure white light and cops should be cool about it. Either that or just sell your hid kit and go back to halogens and get some mtec 2x's. I've had my mtec's for 8months now and drove past four cops with the lights on at night. I haven't gotten stopped for lights. The mtecs are 4300k bulbs too so they give off a pure white light, not as bright as hids but you wont be getting any more tickets for your lights.

Any modifications done to a vehicle gives the police a reason to pull the person over. The deal with the modified exhaust is that if it didn't come stock with the car, you can be cited for it, even if it has the papers from the manufacturer stating it's legal. Yes, it's 50 state street legal because it has to pass emissions before it can be approved to be sold to the public, but the way our state laws are set, it's just something that can't be avoided. The infraction is 27151 (a) vc - exhaust systems: modified to amplify or increase noise. As far as the HID's they're labeled for off-road use only since they're not DOT compliant. The aftermarket kits were designed for the vehicles but they most likely weren't approved by the vehicle manufacturers. Unlike cars that come with them stock. I have not pulled over someone for "Blue lights" or for HID's......yet. If they're blinding people and not properly aimed, then that's a road safety issue for other drivers. As far as everything else, I love the import scene. Most people don't expect a police officer to be driving a fixed up car. So for you guys I may pull over, you may get a break........if you're being respectful and if you don't have any warrants.

HID's were dot approved at one time, but I dont know what happened. Gearbox has papers saying its dot approved and they were legal, until the sale of hid's became illegal. I need more info on this though. And the cop didn't even want to look at my papers saying my exhaust was legal. He said whatever papers you have are fake. I got it done at a state referee stating that my exhaust is legal and it came with a certification compliance code or something and that it complies with california laws and regulations. Anyways I am not trying to obstructly break any laws, I made an appointment for my car to get inspected by a state referee because cops always give me a hard time about my exhaust, this is like the 5th time I have to go to court for my exhaust and they have all gotten dismissed because unlike the cops the judge actually looked at my papers, all the cops are doing is wasting my time and are being real jerks.

Sometimes cops really go too far trying to find any little thing that might be illegal. Then they won't listen when you hand them the proof saying it's legal. I agree there are limits, but this is getting out of hand. Luxury cars are allowed to have HID but we can't. Give me a break.

Yea but the main reason cuz if u get aftermarket hids most likely u would get glare and its not aimed correctly. When cars wit HIDS come stock its made for em and its adjusted perfect and its made for hids.
