Exhaust laws in Southern California?
Does anyone know the exact law regarding exhaust modification? I could of swore reading a law for California that states that any exhaust emitting a sound 95dB or lower is LEGAL. Then I also heard that MODIFYING your exhaust PERIOD is ILLEGAL... Which one is it? I have 2 outstanding tickets on a modified exhaust, and I want to get rid of them if I can... I can't drive w/o a modified exhaust... it just doesnt look right w/o one.
Also, has anybody received a ticket for their exhaust, and before bail was paid on the first citation, you got a nother ticket? I would think they count as one...

when i went on my ride along wit the LA County Sherrif...i asked them about the exhaust...it has to be under 95db...however u are also right bout it being illegal to have a modified exhaust...that rule however is up to the peace officer..if they wanna be a **** they can get u for it
When a cop pulled me over he said that we can't have modified exhaust PERIOD. Then when he left he told me that I can slap on a silencer to make it less noisy... WTF!?! So now I'm just riding stock. Fock that!
tell them it's a replacement, not modified cuz that's what it is. you didn't modify anything. you just replaced it. tell them it has a stock cat, it functions properly, and it's under 95db (hopefully it is). THAT is what's important when it comes to the exhausts. if not... ask him if he would rather have us use the "rusted" stock exhaust with holes in it that is in malfunctioning order. basically, use legit reasons to justify your exhaust. these things have been covered on many forums.... google it and you'll find more "tricks" to it. lates

Any modification to your car is deemed as illegal also. That is the first thing that it states before going into limits of the modification. My friend is sitting right here next to me with his code book. He also is a police officer for L.A. County Police. I agree with his judgment. He says it is all up to the officer if they want to site you for it or not. He also says if you do get sited to fight it and take your chances with the officer not showing up and also having your DB rated to show proof that it is 95db or below.

THIS is why i think aftermarket exhaust is even more gay. Stick with stock. There is no power gain with I/H/E on our car.
I hate the sound of loud exhaust on a slow car. But i love the sound of race cars at the track that has the power or driver to back up all that sound.
big bonus on stock exhaust: the look of the guy's face when u pass them on the race track and they notice ur small stock exhaust

All Harley's have that ugly sound, though. In fact, that is why people buy Harley's, sort of. I'm not a bike person. I like speedbikes, though [and not just because they're quiet].
