anyone got a letter regarding Microsoft's California Settlement?
I dont remember when I registered for a Microsoft product.. since about half of them are er.. borrowed..
but appearantly I own a legal copy of Windows 98 somewhere, since Microsoft has me in their record.
so I got this letter with forms in the mail, about a class action law suit and the settlement of $1.1 billion between Microsoft and California consumer and businesses, saying I get a share of that.
at first I thought its some solicitation from a lawyer.. but its not!
then I was like hey cool I get some money...
so er.. turns out I only get $16 bucks for what they've listed.
but I think I can dig around and see if I can show proof that I purchased more MS products, the voucher values are:
$16 for Windows or MS-DOS
$29 for Office
$26 for Excel
$5 for Word, Works Suite, Home Essentials 97 or 98
I should be able to dig up at least two more copies of windows.. and maybe a MS Office, and Word and Works Suite...
free money!
so anyone else got this?
I thought they'd give more. oh well.

lol.
we can only use it for buying more computer crap though.
but from what I read.. the first $100 (well, $99.99) can be claim without any proof..
so... we'll get at least that much.
I think I'll try to get as much out of this as I can. get a new monitor.
hehe. poor microsoft.
the lawyers are the ones that gets the bling bling outta this.

Yup, i've got that too. Apparently i registered my windows98 cd back in 1999.
But i ripped the paper. Why? It's only $16...don't want to do any additional paperwork and crap like that. Plus I don't want MS coming after me for non-authorized things if you know what i'm saying...
Yup, very true.
I wonder how many people received the letter. 30 million??!

still. u can claim like $99 without any proof of purchase.
after $100, you'll need to provide CD key, etc. and other documents.
I'll take the $99... or rather, like $92.
it'll go towards funds for a new monitor. why not.
I know this copy of Win ME isn't legal.. but the 98 I registered came with a computer I bought at the store.
I have a couple more computers like that at home too. So I can claim quite a bit. just gotta gather it up.
*shrug* I'll cash in on it.
and from what I read, looks like the laywers get up to like $275 million??? or at least thats what they're asking for. the class representatives is up to $40,000... I dont know how many laywers there are.. but there's 27 cases...
thats nuts.

lol yeah. but I have some legit ones laying around.
um.. I'll read the whole thing later and give u guys an update.
u just pretty just fill out the form.
its not totally approve yet, and the deadline is march 04, so there's plenty of time to do it, or forget about it.
you dont get cash, but once u buy the computer parts, u send it in with ur voucher that u'll receive, to receive cash back.
so you can only use this money on more computer stuff. (ie: desktop, laptop, printers, scanners, mouse, monitor, etc.)
