Question re: Shaved Door Handles
Question re: Shaved Door Handles
Hey does anybody know the law about shaving your door handles?? I was talking to a friend and he insisted that it was illegal, but I'm looking for a vehicle code that states this. I called CHP and they are just giving me the run around. Any info you guys have would be great - Thanks

From what my uncle has told me (and he has experience in this field being into the old cars aka 40s), you can have shaved handles as long as you still have something that can allow you to open the door manually like a door popper that you put under the side of the car. A visual example would be the old caddy in Gone In 60 Seconds.
I finally talked to someone at CHP, they said that it wasn’t illegal. They don’t know why I would want to do it (cops always ask that stupid question) but they don’t see any reason why it would be illegal as long as there is a way to open the doors. I called 2 CHP offices & 5 body shops they all said that it is legal. I just wanted to make sure before my bf did it cuz he is always getting harassed by the cops and that’s the last thing he needs is to do a mod like that then get a ticket for it. Thanks for all the info.
