i just got a 97 civic ex with a vtec d16y8 engine. the engine has about 30k on it. Its my first civic, i was thinking about an oil change, but i dont know which oil to use & i don't know what kind is in it right now.

also the previous owner put cut coilovers on it and the ride sucks so imma save up and do the drop right. So far im looking at Skunk2 coilover kit and Skunk2 shocks and struts kit. Is that a good way to go or should i get something different? What else do i need after that? Or is it just better to get Lowering springs with the new struts and shocks?

Welcome to the site. And some good oil is either castrol or mobil 1 but castrol cause its cheaper. And go with either honda oem or mobil 1 or wix filter.

And skunk2 are some good coilovers and there also is megan, tein, or progress. Tein and progress are the main leading and best coilovers they make so far.

and also i see some coilovers for a grand and i see some for like 250...is the 250 ones crap?

Ya it can be synthetic and the 250 coilovers are usually crap but some are good. The raceland coilovers are pretty good for like DD but not really for like track or anything.
