So I have a persuasive speech due on Weds, I decided to do it on illegal street racing. Only thing is, I can't find like statistics for Florida, I found plenty in CA though

So, if anyone here has been fined or knows the fines, I'd really appreciate it if you could post and help me out here

Or if anyone would like to be super cool and find a site that has the statistics that'd be greatly appreciated!!

Call FHP (florida highway partol) and they can give u stats for the state.. i did a smililar thing back in hs.

Fine for Illegal Street Racing. 1st offense = Mandatory Defensive Driving Class and $420 fine.

Although I really wasn't racing...Oh well, I've slowed it down a bit..

Actually, a persuasive speech is meant to move your audience to actually think and perhaps change.

Statistics are nice and all, and I personally would use the CA stats, since they have been keeping track longer and are the most strict (also there is a good chance that the laws will be adopted by other states if they work).

But if you really want to sway your audience, pick a few victims of street racing. I am not talking the other racers who died, but show some details of the innocent ones. I realize any death is sad, but when a street racer kills himself, it is himself/herself that was harmed.

But when someone innocent dies or is mangled by a street racer, then it really hits home. Find some newspaper articles showing the victims that were killed, make some slides or use a powerpoint presentation and people will look into the eyes of someone who is no longer here.

All teenagers think they are invincible. They don't percieve that the death will happen to them. But when they stop to consider that they may kill someone else, it may at least make them think.

blks right, and being caught just for spectating is (well I got this) 300 dollars even or they can even impound your car for a 21 day period with you paying the impound fines.

Oh and btw I saw this thing, a guy was racing on Christmas eve night and he was down triple digits when he hit a van. In the van was his own mother and granmother were in the car. His mother was killed in the accident. Oh yeah and my friend wrapped his accord around a poll but he wasent injured. I say thats b/c he was driving the tank accord and not a civic =)

Thanks everyone! Yeah I used the stats from Ca and I got some numbers for Fl as well. I also had a few pictures of accidents resulting from street racing and found some articles.

Street racing...fun stuff....I just can't stand the people that do it on roads with cars on them?!?!? We usually take our selves out to Zephyrhills and race on the "being developed roads"

That’s cool that you did your persuasive speech on illegal street racing, I did the same thing in my speech class and I delivered it on April 8th about one and a half weeks ago. The prof said my speech was the best out of the whole class . I talk about fifteen minutes, and I mostly talk about the law, the consequences, the life and culture of street racing. I also talk about things that happens in my local area "race night" Pines blvd and 172nd avenue (I doubt you guys will know this).

Well anyway good luck and have fun, and a suggestion don’t read cause its boring "better to memorize and practice the speech until you are very comfortable" and make it entertaining and unforgettable. I have another speech to prepare for April 22.

i was fined 370 dollars last year for racing on the turnpike....those were my so called racing days when i had my eclipse gst>>> he told me he didnt arrest me cuz it was 4:30 am and he was off duty at 5am>>meaning he didnt want to have to fill out a **** load o paper work... then he asked what kinda car it was! LOL! incredible... i took it to a lawyer later that week and took it to court.. i payed him 75 bux to take care of it and he did...

i can give u the statistics in fl. 30% of auto accidents in florida at this point is street racing related. this % has jumped up from 9% after u know what movies came out. i know this becuse iam a orange county sherrif. there have been 7 deaths in orange county alone this year related to street racing . there have been 27 aresst and the fine for racing is automatic detainment and impoundment of your vehicle and also uspension of your licsense for 1 year.

woo hoo thanks!! I need to redo any speech for my final exam for that class so I might do this one since I have more numbers to add.
