A ricecake and his shadow
A few weeks ago, I had a small encounter with a dodge shadow. I was on my way home, in my S2k, and had lined up next to a dodge shadow (i think the turbo if there was such a thing?) at a light. I wasn't paying much attention, and next thing I know, I hear a squeal as the dude takes off. I don't launch, but floor it once I get going and catch up to him just as I'm finishing 1st gear. (mind you he had a 3 car lead, and it only took 1st gear to catch him...haha) I go into 2nd, and the guy slams on his brakes. WTF? (we are only going 45mph)Ok, whatever. I pass him and go home.
The next day, a girl I worked with who goes to the local high school asked if I raced a kid in a shadow last night. I told her yeah. She told me the kid went to her high school, and he was claiming he SMOKED an S2000. So I was pissed. Little ricecake lying biotch.
Well...... payback's a bitch.
Tonight, i ran into the same guy, this time with a female passenger in his car. I follow him a bit, and then sneak into a line spot when he gets stopped at a red light.
Me: Hey, remember me?
Him: Yeah, I smoked you a while ago, haha. (while his girl laughs)
Me: Haha... that's funny that you think you won. But how about you "smoke" me again. If you lose, I bet your little girl there will wanna ride home with me.
Him: Yeah. haha.
Light turns, and I do a full launch.... 5500rpm of rear wheel drive spinning glory. I BURIED him. I had almost 3 buslengths on him by 60mph. I slowed back down, waited for him to catch up and he refused to get next to me.
We even stop at a light, and the guy sits there back away from the light.... so... I back up. hehehehehe.
Me: So what's up now bitch?
Him: Whatever.
Me: Right, you got owned like a little school girl. And babe? You might want to find a real man and not some little ricecake like that.
Sweet revenge. I hate little ricey liars like that.

Haha nice run.
dodge shadows ( yes they came in a turbo version), are fast tho, but by no means a match for an s2k. Faster than my old 1.6EL and i'm willing to bet would walk a 7th gen civic ex easily.

I sure wish my car was newer

Ricecake LOL....I simply cannot understand how many people are so severely misinformed about the quickness of the S2K...seriously, I mean that car even looks quick...

If I still owned my Shadow, it would have given an S2K a good race from 0-60....(14psi, SPearco Intercooler, blah blah blah)
Just so I don't look like a looser belittleing people...I'm going to bestow some knowledge upon you, so perhaps you can learn a thing or two revtek2k2....Do your reaserch...the 2.2/2.5L Turbo Mopar motor is ONE helluva motor...makes MAD amounts of power at INSANE boost levels, and is virtually bulletproof.
They did indeed make turbo shadows...87 was the first year, and came with a 2.2L Turbo I (7psi) producing 146 HP, and I believe 160LbFt of torque. In 1987 came the Shelby CSX (a Shadow that Carol Shelby meddled with) They produced 500 with 175HP175TQ..which was good for mid/high 14's in stock form. The CSX was the same for 88 I believe..and in 89 came the CSX VNT (varriable nozzle turbo) almost eliminating lag. 1/4 mile times were the same, and the car topped out at 143mph (according to Motortrend)
IN 1990 The Shadow got the 2.5L turbo motor, with 152HP...the 2.5 liter sacraficed a little top end, but had alot more torque. The 91 Shadow ES (like I owned) had the best of the Non-shelby Turbo motors. 152HP 210LB/FT of torque stock @ 6-7psi...the "high torque" 91 2.5 had forged rods, forged crank, the A568 tranny (best tranny available then) Turbo II style intake manifold....
I'm sure you raced a stock one...as just mild mods turn a 2.5L shadow into a 13 second car fairly easily.... Mild mods mean, 14-16psi, intercooler, exhaust, tires, injectors......
Anyway...when my Shadow was stock, with 125k on the clock, I'd put buslengths on friends who owned GSR's, Preludes, and Si's....Stock a Shadow ES (Turbo I non-intercooled) is good for a 15.2 or so driven well.......
Eh...I hope I've shared some knowledge that might help people understand some relevant automotive history a little better...
(Sorry for the long winded post s2kman)
s2000man. you tell some great stories and all.... just seems that too many are against friggin cavaliers and fat chicks in neons etc... other than the one Z race i dont recall to many "worthy" cars. go huntin for some big dogs...... leave the lil guys to us other slow civics to mess with

Here in wisconsin, the pickins are slim. In fact, a few people felt as you did, and then they had some trip or some reason they came here. After that, they totally understood my stories and the cars I race. Lotta ricey crap in wisconsin.
And screamin DOHC.... I do believe he was talking about the car in stock form still being a slug. In which, he'd be correct. When he made the statement, I took it as he meant the stock shadow was a slug, since technically ANY car can be made fast with enough money and mods. (though of course, the turbo shadow has cheaper modability and potential, as does any turbo car)

S2kman...
A stock, non-turbo Shadow is a slug...a stock Turbo Shadow is not a "slug"....Especially when compared to a Honda Civic. And to generalize that ALL 2.2L Turbo Mopars are slow is completley assinine
The 86 GLH-T Omni is no slug...the Shadow Comp Package is no slug...The 2.2L TII in ANY FWD mopar is not a slug (as the TII is most desireable) A stock Turbo Shadow is a slug compared to a modded S2K, I'll give you that..but not when compared to a Honda Civic...Shoot, if a stock Turbo Shadow is a slug, I wonder what a stock 99-00Si/98-01Prelude/94-01GSR is then? Because when my shadow was stock, I handily, I mean, handily whooped quite a few of them. There was nothing better than racing my buddy's modded 99 Si (CAI/Header/Pulleys/Exhaust/motormounts)...The light turned green, and his jaw dropped, as I quickly put a good car and a half on him, with the right front tire smoking(lol open diff) ....A stock 5.0L fox body is a better match for a good running Turbo Mopar....
Bah, it's a moot point...I guess if you drive a 12 second car, a 14 second ride would seem like a slug....it's all relative...I surely wouldn't call a car that's faster than mine, a "slug"....
If people want some real info about the cars, I can post links....
Revtek, don't generalize untill you do some reasearch......

I'm 23
screamindohc, i guess "slug" is simply a perception. FWIW, I consider my civic a slug. However, as for a stock turbo shadow, I'm seeing low 15's on those cars. Certainly near the range of the GSR and 6th gen Si. And those cars don't have the turbo. So I'd consider them less "sluggish" because I'd have expected more from a turbo. Then again, I'm comparing newer cars to older cars, so that isn't a fair comparison either.
In it's time, I doubt the turbo shadow was a "slug".

I'm 24...
And....turbo or not, the shadow puts out less power stock... i.e. 152....
Your average 6thgen Si, or GSR isn't a 15.1-15.2 second car....read...average...
Of course...the shadow is limited to a $hitty 7psi stock, and a retarted 2 stage boost limit (meaning, when you hammer it, it won't even hit full boost *7psi* UNTILL 4500-5000rpm....This in and of it's self totally hampers the acceleration.)
Mods make the turbo shadows (or any turbo mopar) quite the screamer (all with 8 valve heads)...
According to Mopar Performance, just the MP ECU adds 25hp and takes .5 sec off the 1/4 mile time (I remember from back when the cars were new) MP computer adds a tiny bit of fuel, liminates the 2 stage boost crap, and raises boost from 6.5-7psi to about 9-10psi...
From my experience, these cars don't even "wake up" untill 18+PSI. The reason they are capable of insane power levels is because of the inherant strength of the engine (able to withstand 20+psi on stock internals, as long as the A/F mixture is kept in check)
Just a 2.5-3" exhaust, with straight thru muffler, and cat removal is a *estimated* 20 HP increase... It just goes on and on...Intercooler, TB, bigger turbo, ported manifold, etc...
I think the beauty of these cars is that in stock form, they are quick, but invest less than 500 in mods, and they are clicking off easy 13 second timeslips...Much more potential than your average N/A 4 banger....bang for the buck that is...
I'll tell you what, my shadow was set at 12-14psi, Intercooled, no cat, 2.5" exhaust, & MP PCM, and, it felt quick..honestly probobly a mid 14 without traction (as you can imagine, 210lb/ft stock, then add mods, thru the front wheels) But once, only once, I jacked the boost up to 18psi for a trip around the block (as I did'nt have any extra fuel to compensate, so I was really playing with Napalm so to speak) I ran into a slightly modded WRX...from a 5mph roll, I couldn't believe the amount of room I put between he and I...lol sleeper...At the time I had my stock rims from the neon on it (185/65/14's) lol....It was hillarious..cruising at 40mph, in 4th gear, I'd stab the throttle, I'd wait a sec for the boost to come on, and the tires would incinerate...hahahaha....Yeah..it was an old car...but what fun....hunting WRX's and modded GST's was hillarious...lol
