Got a ticket for blue lights

so i was driving around tonight in this town and i got pulled over for having blue LED bulbs in my parking lights. ive had them in there for a good month or two and never had a problem.
the cop wrote me a ticket for "unapproved equipment" and i just wanted to know what others that have gotten these recomend i do.

its not a problem to change the bulbs i dont think, but i still have to either pay the ticket or go fight it. and this is such a BS ticket that im tempted to go in front of the judge and see what he says. im just wondering what i should say or what other people's experiences are.

Just pay it. Don't waste money/time trying to fight a cheap and surely enough an illegal mod. Save yourself the embarrassment cuz I'm trying to figure out how the hell you're gonna convince someone who represents the law that your illegal mod should stay? Despite how much you might like them, you know you're wrong for having them. It's just a fix-it ticket. You fix it and you pay the ticket and go on with life.

[/end advice]

P.S. If a cop throws a pie in your face, you eat the damn pie... not throw one back at his face.

I have my parking lights I got from Catz and they are sort of a light blue. Never been appraoched for them and never got a ticket. I think you were in the wrong place at the wrong time man. And the cop was in a bad mood. Sorry to hear that. Just pay the ticket and drive on.

They can't legally do that. Why do you let them? Since when is blue lights on a car a calling sign for drugs?

They have to have probably cause.

Cops dont have to have probable cause to search your car. They can pull ANYONE and EVERYONE over. Because you are using public streets. If you are on your own road, private road, toll bridge privately owned ect ect they need a warrent. But any other time they can pull anyone over and search their car. That is a fact.

I've been searched 4 times, and i usually let them cuz i don't drive w/ my pot, its funny to let them go through the trouble and search through my car. I don't really care, 1 time a cop told me driving a car like this .. i was bound to get pulled over at night. ( I was driving a 98 civic ex , it wuz pretty riced out )

Regardless of where you are driving, they can't pull you over and just SEARCH your car. They either need probable cause or your permission. If they ask you if they can search your car, and you say "no", that is NOT probable cause either.

Cops have searched my car before, but you have to be very careful. We have videos of Charleston cops placing beers bottles and drugs in cars as they search so they can get the person in trouble.

and another thing...why the HELL do they sell the lights then if theyre illegal? i think thats kinda stupid.

oh and another thing...
P.S. If a cop throws a pie in your face, you eat the damn pie... not throw one back at his face.

Probably no more than $15-$20.

lol

Why do people sell weed? It's illegal but people still buy it. If anyone gets caught with weed by the law, they're most likely in trouble. The real answer is that those lights SELL... they bring in MONEY. No matter what, if it's profitable whether legal or illegal someone will find a way to sell it. Some countries may permit them, but as they are not permitted here (I'm guessing in MOST US states) it's just one of those things to make money off of. The people who sell them don't care what happens to you if you get in trouble with them... they've made their nickle off of you and that's that.

oh and another thing...

LoL, make sure you handle that AFTER he leaves the crime scene.

You really think that these companies care what you do with your blue lights? All they know is that they are making money. That's all they care about. The lights might also be for "show" cars.

They don't care about the people buying the lights, they only care about the money recieved from them. The government likes them selling the lights too because then they get to ticket you and make money on the other end.

yeah the law is very vauge so the things you get pulled over for and ticketed is very questionable but it's to the cops interpretation of the law.. i got pulled over twice for the blue turn signals before i changed them.. but the second cop said to me "you can have blue lights on your car, but the can't flash". so i changed my signals to white and i still blue lights on my car but if i get pulled over that's what i'm going to tell them.

They're cops. Power = ignorance.

No, BMW and Audi do not use $40 ricer blue bulbs in their headlight systems. They have what we call H.I.D.. The color does not come from the bulb, in fact the actual bulb in an H.I.D. set up is as clear as any bulb your find in your Honda Civic from the dome light to the headlight.

Pulling strings? That's a good one. It would be better if you just admit you don't know what in the world you're talking about. That wasn't the smartest reply.

are you implying im a ricer because i have blue light bulbs? thats a bit harsh. and its not the headlights, its the parking lights.
damn...its not like i got LED washer nozzles....no need to be flinging "ricer"...

i guess im gonna have to call them up and see how much the ticket is. i really dont feel like changing the bulb tho...i mean i realize theyre illegal, but the only reason for that "law" is to prevent police impersonation. whos gonna think my civic is a cop car????

That's not the only reason why they are illegal. They're also illegal because they're not safe. They're not even bright. In headlights, they shine no further than 3 yards compared to stock. It falls in the category of safety hazzard. It's more cosmetic than it is functional, whether it's a parking/signals/headlight. Personally I wouldn't see why it should be in the parking wedge area - it may do nothing but it's still illegal.

I wasn't implying that you're a ricer, but the mod IMO is no different than LED washers. The only reason why some people go against LED washers rather than blue bulbs in their headlights is because it looks even more ridiculous to have lights there. However, I see it being no different because it's just as pointless to have hyper/arctic/super/xtreme whites in headlights when it's illegal and completely non functional. It does nothing but attract unnecessary attention, and your current situation is no exception of what kind of attention it brings. That's what rice does IMO.

A lot of people wonder why cops do things like this and sometimes they do take it too far. I dunno if you remember BLUENVY01's car (which was an Electron Blue Pear 01l coupe). It had a molded body kit, loud exhaust, 18 inch rims and hyperwhites. He always got harrassed by cops cuz his car attracted too much attention. A cop gave him a ticket because his sound system was on when it was never on - he was next to another car with it's system blasting while driving. The cop asked him to open his trunk. While there was a sub in there he assumed it was on and got a ticket! Ridiculous!

Nothing you can do about what a cop does if you don't attract one right? He's trying to sell his car now for that and because since the kit is molded, he cant return it to stock.

Rice to me is anything visually pointless. People put money in their cars to "look nice" and end up paying more money for unnecessary tickets through unnecessary mods... and blame cops since their "rice-rocket" attracts attention and they know cops don't like that kind of **** on a car. If a person's "show" car is gonna attract that much attention, why should it even be on the street?

Just my 2 bronze Abe's.

i hear what youre saying, and in a way i do agree with it. however, if its not hurting anyone, or causing a disturbance, or doesnt directly cause the car/owner to interfere with police duties, why are these things illegal?? i just dont understand...theyre not even blinkers...theyre just blue lights.

my headlight bulbs are actually DOT approved hyperwhites, thats why i got them. and theyre whiter and brighter than stock. im not trying to pose for HIDs or anything, i just wanted to see better, which i now can. the blue LEDs are brighter than the stock 194 bulbs also...and before this ive never had a problem. i think its just that i was driving in a town thats been getting more cruisers lately, and with spring and teeny boppers on the streets again they just thought i was one of them. and just pulling me over and not doing anything is a waste of time...

BTW...im not trying to beat a dead horse...im just kinda procrastinating at work. i know i "broke the law" so i just have to suck it up and pay...

yeah if the violation is not on the ticket you might have to go to court for it because thats what happened to me. I guess if you can prove that they are DOT approved then you might have a chance with the judge.

What brand would this be out of curiosity? The only brand I know that's legal is Sylvannia.

DOT approved Vs. Law that hates blue. I still say just pay the damn ticket. :P

well...heres the updated. i was searching the nj DOT to see how much the ticket is, and its $43. but heres the interesting part...the cop wrote that the violation was statute 39: 3-77, but in the actual listing of violations there is no such statute. and unapproved lighting equipment is actually statute 39: 3-47. now i know this is a technicality, but im thinking of switching my bulbs to just plain ones and going to court to fight this.
im gonna call the DOT or dmv tomorrow and make sure that theres no statute 39: 3-77, and if there isnt thats the cops damn fault and i dont think i should pay. by that time he wont even have a way to prove that i had blue lights in there anyways.

BTW - sonic, there are other brands that meet DOT requirements. jc whitney sells bulbs called HIB's and they say theyre legal....just letting you know.
