yes there is a lot of underestimation of our cars, but then again a lot of bs stories about how great our cars are.

i would have disbelieved this story if i had not beat a modded si in my ex. thing is he was only shifting at 7k rpm like me. driver??

The B16A, found in the 1998-2000 Civic Si, is rated at 160hp. Our Ex is only rated at 127hp, thats not whp but it still proves the point. Plus our Civics are also notoriously known for not responding well to bolt-ons so I really doubt your I/H/E gave you enough power to beat the Si. Let's just say you drove better than the driver of the Si, thats being more that fair.

At least give the guy some credit I mean the SI does have more horsepower and torque and overall responds better in mods than our car but I mean I guess it all depends on the driver and how about if the guy was just playing the guy but green goblin thought it was a race and won.

The 99-00 has NO torque. In fact, in torque #s it's equivalent to an 7th Gen EX Civic at the crank.

And wheel HP in our cars is nowhere near 120. Try 108-110.

A completely stock Si losing? You would have to prove some kind of flaw in his driving or his car. I could see a disadvantage if he had 17s on.

EDIT: Torque in 99-00 Si is actually 111 @7,000 RPMs. My car knowledge must be deteriorating.

ex 2001+
127HP....FF cars lose 15% hp from flywheel to the wheels which mean the EM has 107.95 WHP

according to the concept EM, they got 170hp out of our motor "through a custom high-flow intake manifold,
a stock engine head that has been ported, polished and decked,
a custom exhaust header, a large 2-inch exhaust system and a sport muffler."

the si isnt the greatest car, but it isnt slow. unless u did some serious mods to ur motor, its a bit hard for me to believe u beat a SI

way more then just 15% drivetrain loss. whp for a stock vic is 100 (at best) whereas stock crack hp is 127.

That means you're only suffering from a 5-9% drivetrain loss.

It's also pretty hard to believe that any 4-cylinder engine would obtain 43 horsepower by adding i/h/e along with a port and polish job. Maybe a V8, but not an I4

from what i know
FF has a 15% drivetrain loss
FR has a 18% loss
AWD has a 22% loss

ya ur right rsxtc it is hard to believe how they got 170hp out of I/H/E ported, polished and decked, with intake manifold.
i was just quoteing what they said on the site. hehe

RSX-S. And I believe 1/3 of 43HP will come from an intake alone.

to be honest, you can never rely on a percentage for drivetrain loss. It does NOT vary directly with drivetrain, nor even HP. it varies from car to car. You can guesstimate an average for a specific car, but most certainly NOT for an entire drivetrain (ie, FW, RW, AWD, etc, etc)

A car's acceleration in a given gear will follow the TORQUE curve EXACTLY. The 7th gen EX weighs slightly less than the 6th gen SI and also has more torque (3 ft/lb). But due to the fact that the SI has more aggressive gearing and that it's torque peak is at high rpm's (7000) the SI can do more work over time. This is the reason why its HP rating is significantly higher. HP= TQ*RPM/5252. In an eggshell, the SI is faster stock for stock because it can make power closer to redline, not because it pulls harder, per se. So with an EX with bolt-ons it's more of a driver's race, assuming the SI is stock. This article should help.

roll on race with 7thgen Ex...

That's me racing a 7th gen. I'm not stock, but let me remind you that a 6th gen Si has a better top end than me...If you won, it's simply because the driver was incompetent. And to the guys who said that they beat an Si on the highway..puh-lease....that is complete BS...complete and utter BS. An Si will absolutley SLAUGHTER an EX on the expressway...This coming from a previous 6th Gen EX owner....

A rsx-s won't get 43 hp with i/h/e. Some rsx owners would like to believe that it does though.
Baseline dyno for an rsx varies from 170-175. Most power i've seen on a N/A rsx-s is about 215-220 whp. (edo from Clubrsx)

That's with i/h/e, ITR cams, and Hondata ECU flash. Not your average bolt-ons and port/polish job.

One must take into consideration the engine that's being modded.
The K20A2 is totally different than the d17.

ya

I know for a fact that the D16 (6th gen) responds very well to mods..I don't think that the 7th gen D17 does though...I know when I'd race an Si in my 99 Ex (5 speed, CAI/Header/Full exhaust/bbk 62mm throttle body, etc..) I'd be even with the Si untill about 65-70ish, at which point he'd not walk, but steadily run away from me. Wasn't even close on the expressway. Not only did I not have the power, but I was at a serious gearing disadvantage. Not as bad in the Neon, although, I'll still probobly loose to an Si at 120+ due to the under geared Neon tranny... :-/

Make a new thread with all the vids so we can talk about them. He was sticking up for you since most of us had a bad taste in our mouth because of all the civic vs. neon argument that happen on this board.

I'll be at NOPI this year just like i was last year too.

LOL. Without an engine swap, non-si 6th gens are doomed without FI. Either way, serious cash is involved.
