Your Daddy Wins Another Race

Sorry, I wasn't driving my 2K1 -- No, if I had been driving the big bad stock LX auto, I would have had to just smile and turn up the subwoofer when those punks pulled up and revved on me.

Fortunately, I was driving the 5th generation 1994 "EG" hatchback....my son and I switched cars about three weeks ago and neither of us was in a hurry to get our own car back. He has worked all through high school to get this car built for moments just like I am having right now and of course I have helped him all I could with advice and a few parts here & there.

Anyway...I'm sipping my drink at the Sonic last night, watching the parade of rice go by, when a blue 2000 Civic Si with three young gentlemen pulls up to my passenger side and starts revving the engine. Because the windows on my car are severely tinted (15%), they couldn't see in so I have to reach over and roll down the window. They are speechless for a second when they see a 100 pound schnauzer and a 6' 1" 250 pound middle-aged man sitting in this little red hatchback

I say "What's happening tonight?" and one of them said "Do you want to sell that car for about $2,500 or $3,000?"

I said "You don't even know what's been done to it!" The driver said "What HAS been done to it?"

I just said "Well, it's got a B18 in it--" and the passenger cut me off and said "How'd you like to run this B16 for pink slips? "I'll run you for fun just to show you what I've got" I said, "even though it scares my dog to go that fast." Hee Hee

As they were backing out of their space to go to the makeshift "dragstrip" I notice a paper temporary tag on the back of the Si and start laughing to myself. If this had been for pink slips I could have gotten it before he would have even made the first payment. Then I got on the cell phone and left a voice mail for my son who is at work at the mall: "Son, I'm getting ready to race a 2000 Si. Call me when you get off work. Love you, bye"

Finally, we're there. Go on the 3rd beep of the Si's horn. beep beep beep.

AW CRAP I Launched at 4500 RPM - WAY TOO HIGH
my 215's go totally up in smoke so I go ahead and grab second
TIRES STILL SPINNING and the Si is just a hair ahead
FINALLY traction and we pull a fender ahead and I grab third
4500 RPM in 3rd and its like we're shot out of a cannon WOW - 2 car lengths by the top of 3rd
Into 4th - 1 more car length by the quarter end

The guys pulled over afterwards and they were cool about it. He said he might want to try me again without those other two dudes in his car. Hey - maybe I can beat him worse without my big dog and after I practice launching the car at 3000 RPM

Yep, the drivetrain is a B18B1 out of a 1996 Integra. We've tried to make it trouble-free by putting in new axles, a Centerforce dual friction clutch in it, and keeping the rev limiter at 7000 rpm (no VTEC you know!). It just has the usual bolt-ons (Comptech header, UR crank & alt pulley, and intake) but the CX version of the hatchback only weighs between 2200-2300 pounds.

Hey FlyRiceRacer, me and the son still plan to bring BOTH cars to the Georgia meet on Saturday March 15th if the sun is shining!

Here: I just put up a few pics
Linky to Members Rides
*Last night it looked like it did at the dragstrip - running on steelies except dirtier
*We'll put the gold Volks back on for the Georgia show next week

Sorry, no 1/4 mile strips within 150 miles so we don't have a quarter mile time, but it runs low 9.8's in the 1/8 with a 2.2 60 ft
