some 5spd racing tips?
im not much of a racer... but when i smack my wheels on, and get my kit- im prolly gonna get some challenges this summer. so.... lets talk shfting! Is there an ideal RPM to shift at with each gear when u race? or- should u just bring all of them all the way up? i read somewhere that you should keep ur car in its most powerful rpm zone- just before red line. are some gears safer to rev up to 6.5 than others? could you ride them all to max? what happens at red line, does ur car just stop accelerating? do u shorten the life of ur engine when u rev high?
when u start from a dead stop- should you rev ur engine to a certain rpm before you let up on the clutch? i kno that if u take it too high, youll spin out in place- which is no good for the sake of speed right?
When i drive in daily use- i try to make it so that u cant feel the shifts. i do this by trying to give it just enough gas to slip into the next gear seemlessly, without any wiplash- this is how it should be done right?
btw- which cars (stock) can we can def beat w/o questoin? ive got an FIPK2, so maybe i have a slight advantage...and its 5spd, but its an LX.
eg- can we beat neons, proteges, carollas, cavaleres, matrix, those ugly suzukis, cellicas, etc??
thanks

i think there are a couple threads that deal with launching.... but anyways... you need to figure it out cause it different on all of our civic because of weight, the kind of tires/wheels, and the ability of the driver to feather gas or clutch pedal..... the driver (YOU) need to practice your launch.... experiment with all sorts of methods.... try reving in the beggining about 2500 rpm and feather the clutch to prevent wheel spin... KEY thing in a lauch.. minimum wheel spin... and no engine bog....

Yes, you can ride all the way to the red. When you hit 7k rpms, the gas cuts off. Basically, you'll see the tach bounce at 7k. Of course, running that many RPM's isn't good, but as long as you don't do it all the time, you're engine should be fine. Going from a dead stop, you want to rev (I like 3500 rpm) and then let the clutch out as fast as possible without spinning. As for you're daily driving, yeah, that's the way to save the tranny. Now as for stuff you can and can't beat, just check out the specs. Compare HP, Torque, and weight. Those are the biggies. Lastly, don't street race, it's a fast way to get yourself killed. If you don't kill yourself in a crash, the person you hit may come and kill you.
