Just got back from a night at the drags

My friend who just turboed his Miata talked me into going tonight after weeks of badgering me about it. So I finally broke down and gave in... And I’m sort of glad I did. There was a lack of dumbfwks, absolutely no cops, it was a perfect stretch of deserted commercial (and NEW) road, and I was kicking *** and taking names. So you could say it went well.

I ended u racing 5 cars tonight. 2 later model Preludes, a 99+ CamEro, a 97-98 Mustang GT and an SRT-4.

First 2 runs were with the Preludes. The first was red, lowered with I/H/E, cams and a VAFC. He wanted to race my friend in the Miata but he said he had to beat my civic first to be worthy (LOL!), so the guy reluctantly lined up with me.

I can’t even convey to you how shitty my launch was. Seriously, I was spinning through 1st and 2nd. Funny thing was I was dead even with the prelude even though I had zero traction. At the 2-3 shift when I finally stopped spinning my tires I started top really pull on him and ended up with a 2-3 car lead by the end of 3rd.

That guy came by my car laster asking what I was running under the hood. I wouldnt believe me when I told him it was a stock block and all motor, so I even popped the hood for him. He didnt say much after that.

2nd run was with ANOTHER 97+ prelude. Dude had I/H/E and I don’t know what else if anything. Pretty much the same thing happened except I got a MUCH better launch and ended up taking the guy not only out of the hole, but I ended up shutting down way early because it wasn’t getting to the point that it wasn’t worth my effort.

After those 2 runs, everyone wanted to run me. I couldn’t park my car for 5 seconds without being bugged. So this guy in a 99+ V6 kamEro pulls up and asks who’s Si it was. After he asked about 5 times I finally said it was mine. Of course he asked me to run. I asked if it was a V6 (I knew it was) and he starts going of "Yea it’s a 3.8l blah blah blah". I rolled my eyes and gave in because my friends were egging me on.

Needless to say I made quick work of him. By the end of 2nd hear I was already 3-4 cars ahead of him so I slowly moved back and fourth in my lane while coasting. He stopped way short pulled a U turn and floored it back to the parking lot.

I didn’t see that guy anymore after that.

Then I finally got a good race. The dude in his stock SRT-4 wanted to run. FINALLY, I thought, something interesting.

Anyway, we line up and I get an awesome launch (the SRT4 guy later told me he got an awesome launch as well). I pulled ahead a bit and held it there. His front bumper was about at my passenger door, and that’s where we stayed all the way into my 4th gear where I shut down. Basically it went to the driver with the better 60' time and both out cars were otherwise evenly matched.

I sat out a while and more and more people started to show. I was ready to go because it was getting TOO big and I dont need cops around, so I decided to get one more run in then leave.

I decided to run a 97-98 Mustang GT that had been running all night. He was a friend of the SRT-4 and I guess they race all the time with the Mustang edging him out a bit every time I saw (although the GT guy always hit his hazards WAY early).

We line up and I get an AWESOME launch. I actually pulled half a car on the GT and held it there through 1st. 2nd came and I pulled a TAD BIT more. Sweet, I’m thinking, this should be similar to the SRT4 race.

Then I jammed it between 1st and 3rd gear and I had to let off. Everyone knew what happened so we both swung back around.

2nd time we line up and I screw the launch royal. By the time I hook up my front bumper is at his side mirror, and there I stayed through 1st and 2nd... and at the 2-3 shift... HE HIT HIS HAZZARDS! Argh! LOL, I continue on it anyway though 3rd. I slowly creep on him but we run out of room before I can make up the space. D'oh!

Oh well, I call "good run" and head on home after that.

BTW, I have NO idea what the GT was running. I do know he had much wider then stock rubber and it sounded mean as ****. I also know it was a fair amount quicker then a stock GT... even the 99-04 version.

All in all I hade a very good night of some clean wholesome fun.

Perhaps next time Ill remember to bring a cam-corder.

sounds like a good time I find the v6 camero quite commical considering I have walked on 1 or two and a v6 firebird (same thing). Why did he want to race you??? did he not know his place in the food chain??? Good kills though

I highly doubt he thought he was going to lose. The guy had a raging hard on for my car though. He kept pestering us for like 3 minutes straight about who owned the car (out of the 3 of us standing around).

really, if I had been getting traction (I have some very bald tires up front) I would have owned people out of the hole a lot more often as well.
