7th gen vs Golf III and Dodge Neon

So I had my 02 Lx sedan for 6 months now... and one of my friends has always wanted to race my Civic, but i always denied it cause I know Civics arent fast and i also have an automatic... so last nite he forces me into it so im like ill jsut give it a shot...

So his Golf III 5 speed intake and exhaust vs my all stock LX sedan automatic are making our way onto Route 80, we start from a 10 mile roll and go after 3 beeps... Well from 10-40 mph he starts pulling a little less than half a car on me, but once we reach 40 i start pulling really fast, once we get to 60 i have 2 cars on him and by the time i reached 85 i had a bus length on him and shut down.

So we get off an exit and meet at a gas station and he was like "ohh i wasnt ready" (even though he was the one who did the 3 beeps)... So we went at it again and this time i start of the race in D3 and basically it was the same outcome except he didnt pull on me this time at the beggining of the race... i jsut flew past him... and heres the funny part after we get off an exit we pull into a wal mart parking lot and hes like "you only won cause ur V tec kept kicking in" I started laughing cause im pretty sure an LX doesnt come with a vtec so i had to explain that to him and next thing u know a ricey dodge Neon with SNOWBOARD as a wing starts approaching us and he is like "you want to race", and Im laughing like crazy at his Snowboard wing, and hes like "ohh thats there to provide downforce for my turbo".... i knew he doesnt have a turbo, so we went on 80 and we started at 10 mph roll, and after 3 beeps i took off and literally couldnt even see him in my rear view mirror once i hit 90 mph...

All i got to say is that last nite was pretty crazy and funny especially when ur racing a 96 rusted Snowboard winged neon and some one who thinks an LX has a vtec...

2.0L golfs ARE slow as hell.

Easy pickins for a 5-speed civic.

Just don't pick on anything with a "GTi" label. They're usually 1.8T's or VR6's, and need a turbo, B, or K series to keep up with.

Yes they are. The 2.0 liter VW is good for low end, and even with intake and exhaust they die above 5400 rpm. If you know where the power is being made, your can get them going, but top end they will always die until you do a cam swap. I know from experience, having owned a 97 Jetta GL.

Bingo.

I have not dyno'd my car, but people with similar setups to mine (vr6) are pushing about 160 whp and 180 wtq. BIG drop in torque over the 5500 mark. To get max power, I have to shift right at about 6k, and don't let it run to the 6800 redline.

So... if you're going to race an NA VW... it's going to probably be a top-end win. Turbos, well, are more variable... depends on what it's got.

Good kills, keep them coming, but be safe.
