are civics>wrx when going 75mph or was he just messin with me?
ok so a few days back i was going home from class and i get on i-290, and this wrx from my school is ahead of me. its some kid, and he has an exhaust and tinted windows so im like he'll prolly gimme a go, i knew i would get owned but i just wanted to see how fast the wrx was. it seemed like it was automatic, either that or he was one helluva good shifter but im pretty sure i twas auto. ok so we going around 80 and jumping around the lanes (theres a bit of traffic but not too much, not enough where we were endangering anyone by doing this). so eventually i get ahead of him since we werent really racing, and now we going 75, and i have the lane clear ahead of me, so i floor it. and it seemed like he was keeping pace, then he starts dropping back... but not really all that fast, and by this time im going 110 (pretty much topping it out on my little auto lol, speed cutoff at 112), and he still dropping back but really slow, seemed like he was going around 5mph slower then me. so... was he toying with me or are those things really that slow at higher speeds?

the fact as it stands right now is that m/t 7thgen with the most hp can only handle 304 and thats after going threw 5 cluches and it stil went out after that dyno run. fact level 10 auto tranny is built for 450hp or something like that. i was going to get a 330xi this summer due to i want a real car but due to people hating on autos im finishing the vic and proving m/t guys wrong.
did not meen to hijack im just sick of the autobashing going on.

Regular WRX's are dogs top end. I had one. But they are still putting about 170 hp to the ground, so even at highway speeds they are going to pull. With some mods though, WRX's can be pretty good top end vehicles. But it takes some mods. AWD is great for a launch, but that's about it.

Second the manual tranny can handle a **** load more hp than the auto could ever handle all that you have to do is put in a good clutch that can take the beating.
I honestly think that a 5spd with I/H/E and a flywheel could keep up with a auto civic at 5psi maybe not from a roll, but most likley in a 1/4.
I am not bashing autos so I don't what to hear any bitching about that I am just trying to set the facts straight
He was messing with ya. Even if the WRX left it in 5th gear, he would have pulled on you like you were standing still. I have one, I know. I posted a kill on here about some dumb asshat in a civic trying to race me on the highway. Just look for it if you want to read up on it.

I will say that not to long ago I was on the highway and a early 2000 model BMW, with exhaust, not sure what series (it was a hatch) came up behind me and was riding my *** at 80mph. So I floored it and we stayed even until around 115mph and from then until 125 or so I pulled. I slowed down and he passed (at over 125 so there was no speed limiter pre 125), but 20 miles latter he was waiting for me on the side of the road. We ran two more times with us even and then me pulling at 110+ everytime. I was really suprised that the vic kept up with a car that I would think would win in 1/4. It is interesting to see just what happens to some cars after after the 1/4 mile

im gonna have to say thats a retarded comment... even with a small t25, not to mention someones daring and puts a t3/t04b or e ont here and loves turbo lag but loves raw hp... a stock civic ( lets use d16z6 just becasue i know them well, im unfamiliar with the d17's), but you forget to mention that the stock exhasut mani istn very good... but if you use a turbo exhaust its kind of like using a small and short 4-1... better flow...and now on 5lbs... so basically on a turbo d16z6, you have differnt exhaust and intake and header... which is your only mods to the i/h/e civic with a clutch...
now on 5lbs, the d16z6 better be around 180hp... which is WAY more than a i/h/e clutch d16z6 would do...
my bet is only from a dig to 80 feet would the i/h/e be ahead.. then its waving by by time for the turbo.. casue your forgetting that 5lbs of forced air is going to add a lot, A LOT more torque than i/h/e do anyday.... so its not even a question... its a win for the turbo... and think about the possibilities if they use a large turbo with some lag.... it may be a closer 1/4 mile race, and close i mena like 14's compared to high 15's....... but not on a roll... which is what i come to see is more than 1/2 of the races i encountered anyways... either way... turbo owuld win hands down...
turbos rule.... plan and simple
only reasons why manuals are faster from a role is the whp gained from less driveterrain losses... what 3hp...and saving 100lbs on tranny or something...
thats it.....

i pulled on an ss camero tonight for real though, he called me out. We took started at about 80, i dropped it in 4th and pulled ahead about 2 lenghts and stopped pulling but he wasnt gaining until about 120mph and we were dead even at about 135mph and i shut it off cause i got scared. it was the fastest race i had ever been in. probbobly wont do it agin but at least i can say i pulled on an ss camero.

if you have ever driven in a bmw bogetz you would know they are very underated for there hp numbers they list. the 528i that i used to drive pulls harder then my civic. that guy was a moron if he could not beat a civic with no n20 or all of the small bolt ons or a turbo.

At 5psi the same car would get around 130whp (if that). With my boltons I am getting 125-130whp. Plus I can shift and my car weights less! It would be no contest.

BTW what psi are you running and do you have any dyno #s. I will be very interested to see what you run in the 1/4. I am not trying to be an *** and flame your car because I respect what you have done to it. I am just really curious as to how a auto performs
