Rep Power: 309 01' civic vs. 02' focus
What do you guys think? My 5 speed 01 civic LX w/ just an AEM SRI vs. a stock Automatic 02 focus sedan on a 1/4 mile. This guy talks a lot of **** at work about how fast he is you think i could take him and knock him off his high horse? He has a 2.4 ZTX or XZT whatever it is.

I owned a 2.0 Zetech 00 Ford Focus ZX3 and it was slow, to slow. If he has a 02 Automatic Sedan, chances are it has the 2.0 MPI SOHC motor which is slower than the Zetech then yes you can deffinitly take him. If it's an 04 Model sedan with the 2.3 DOHC Duratech motor... You can forget about it.
Let's keep this all legal though, take it to the track.

Rep Power: 251 if you tend to race him or plan to, make sure you got couple things taken care of:
-is motor oil still fresh? cars run better when the addictives in the oil is fresh and still in
-weight reduction: take out your audio system, even take out the spare tire
-take it to a safe place. please dont run on local roads where people drive on. at least find a back road where its deserted and such
-lower tire pressure before fronting the guy. maybe drop the psi on the front tires a little.
-theres more to it, but make sure its all safe. hate to hear another driver/car being injured

Rep Power: 309 It'll be completely safe. We'll run in the empty lot outside our work after hours. We do it all the time it's about a 1/2 mile and no oncoming traffic cause it's closed after hours two lanes. It's perfect.

Rep Power: 309 I usually have trouble w/ launch . Too much RPMs then end up losing take off advantage but end coming back around 2 to 3. But this focus has got the power advantage.

Rep Power: 0 Follow the advice of the person who said to lower front tire air pressure a bit, that'll help your launch. I'm sure you're already farmiliar w. feathering the clutch, etc etc.

Rep Power: 0 I raced my 02 Civic LX Sedan (auto) against a 00 Focus Zetec.... even though it has 15hp on me i still smoked him.... You have to understand Ford Engines arent really great quality and will lose their Hp when put under pressure... also Focus's weigh alot as well... I think youll definently beat him cause you also got 5 speed, and if i can beat a focus with an auto youll definently win

Rep Power: 309 Today after work a new guy who just started at my job wanted to race me AGAIN. The day before i took him out and i guess he wanted a rematch. Anyway he has a 91' accord all riced out. 2 foot high alloy spoiler, altezza's, neons everywhere, and decals within every square foot of the car. So anyway we down to the end of a lot outside our work and another co-worker flags us. We take off at about the same time I jump about a half car in front and pull from there and take him w/ about 2 cars between us. Nothing special i beat him yesterday.
But then the focus calls me out. I'm think 2.3 against a 1.7.........? Doesn't look too good but i wasn't about to back out so off we go to the end of the lot. Now i'm think 5-spd vs. auto? Then i remembered all the crap i got in my car. subs, amps, and a back seat full of books and stuff from school. Not looking to good for me. So anyway i rev it up to about 4000 and the guy flags us and we're off. On take off i jump to about 1/3 car and he's at my rear quarter panel. Run 1st up to 6600 then throw it into 2nd and jump to a full car length. Here comes the finish line and i throw it into 3rd at 6600 again and end it w/ about a little more then a car between us. So the 1.7 takes the 2.3 Now i'm think i take out my subs, the stuff in my back seat? Rematch!

Rep Power: 0 Uhm.. I'm calling bullshit on this one.
The 2.3 liter focus makes a TON more power than a 7th gen. Your intake is good for a nominal 2-3HP. Yes you have the 5 speed advantage but he's also going to be consistant. Unless he doesn't know how to push the pedal down. You're talking about a 25HP (thats giving you 5hp for the intake) deficet and 37ft. lbs of torque of difference. As far as weight differential, you have him beat by 200lbs. Weight matters but not that much.
And no a Civic stock is not > than a Focus stock when it comes to a race. I don't say this because I own one, I say this because I've driven both and the Focus just outright makes more HP. Both cars are close in comparison when it comes to performance but the Focus puts down more power and is marginally heavier.

Rep Power: 0 Along the lines of what trahma said...BS
A stock 2.3 5spd will put down 127whp in 5spd form, and about 10% less with the crapbox atx. That's not where he should have got you... it's the torque that unless he has traction controll would have eaten you alive. 145 crank ftlbs = 108-110 wheel torque even with an autotragic. Thanks for playing.
