Drag Question
When the drag strips open back up this season, it'll be my first drag season ever. This is gonna sound like a n00b question, but which will work better? 14" steelies mounted with DR's or 17x7's with street tires? Stock steelies are like what, 5" wide? Given that, vs 7" tires with street tires, taken tread into consideration, are about 5" wide as well right minus water tread? But DR's rubber compund are softer right? Ahhh, okay, some plz help.

steelies with DR's would be better.
first cuz they are DR's. second, because the smaller rim/tires will make you accelerate faster than the 17 inch rim/tires.

Yeah, go for the smaller rim and tire combo. It will give you a little more torgue witch will help you get off the line and a little help down the track. Speed wise you will be about the same. Plus the steelies should be lighter.

Rep Power: 0 14x6 the stock Miata wheels are an awesome choice and can be found in yards around me for usually about $20 a wheelat a tic under 12lbs a piece.
my favorite cheap lightweight wheels for 5-lug are the Mazda Millenia wheels, 15's coming in at about 13lbs.
Those Kosei's are nice, you can also check out the Kazera's in 15" that are almost 11lbs and really quite cheap. The one's I'm talking about you can find on Discount Tire's website for Miata fitment.

the 14's would be better like everyone said because of dr's. also the smaller diameter will put the weight of the tire closer to the center and cut down it's rotational mass.
also I'd suggest the BFG g-force dr's.
you'll want to run then at 12-15 psi for maximum traction. 12 for cold days and 15 for hot days.

Rep Power: 260 Now here comes the real question. Do you think the stock axles could handle being launched on DR's w/ boost? I'm worried about stripping the splines out on the drive axles. Knowing my luck, i'd strip out the splines on the output shafts in the transaxle.

the lbs of air in the tires here doesnt make senes... if you want them to be close and change the tire pressure to accomidate the change in temperature outside, wouldnt the pressure in the tire on hot day be lower since hot air expands? say 15 on cold day and 12 on hot day....?
