Rep Power: 0 probably will, they are very heavy cars. My friend as a 1.8t GTI with mods (APR chip, neuspeed exhaust, 3' downpipe, front mount intercooler, intake and ka4 turbo). It's a quick car, but yesterday I took a ride on my buddy Don's 2003 civic with a T25 and it felt a lot faster and he's only running 8PSI and very rich I might add. My friend Carlos is pushing 16psi on his GTI. I'm actually going to the Dyno tommorrow with the GTI.

Rep Power: 0 Yeah GTI's weight is between 3000 and 3200lbs. It's rated at 180hp at the crank and around 148 to the wheels (I saw this in sport compact car 1 year ago). Yes it's the same engine has the jetta. My friend Carlos got 188hp to the wheels and 217 of torque with the APR chip, neuspeed exhaust, intake and the front mount intercooler last time we went to the dyno. He put the downpipe and the slightly bigger turbo on the car about three weeks ago so we will see how much he gained.

Rep Power: 0 That is what I thought, I had a Jetta owned on the highway (my NA civic) and my gf made me stop. I really don't think that a Jetta is that much slower than a Golf. I really think that a moded NA civic with a decent driver would take one. The other day I saw a Golf and I swear that it said 1.3T (maybe the 8 was busted) is this a different model (sorry I am VW ignorant)???

Rep Power: 0 if its a stock GTI vs. a turbo civic then the vic would win no contest (unless you had a misshift of something). I recently raced a friend for fun who has a GTI with a catback exhaust (everything else stock). He's quick, but overall hes not that fast, if you are a much better driver then you might, MIGHT be able to take him. But equal drivers, stock cars, he would win...so you gotta pull something outta your sleeve

Rep Power: 0 ^^^no it was a newer Jetta 1.8T (not Golf). I was pulling on him after 85 or so. I really think that the Jetta 1.8T atleast runs with the A4s and civics around 16' 1/4s. Moded I have Owned every A4 (all stock) I have raced. But I think that you are talking about a golf anyways

Rep Power: 0 My buddy carlos did a 15.7 in the quarter mile last june. And thats with a chip, intake, exhaust and short shifter. VW's are weird I've driven the car before and you really can't shift fast with that car even with the short shifter. I really can't explain it but half way through the shift it feels like it doesn't want to go in gear. My buddy went to the dealer to check it out and they said it's fine, but who knows. But when this happens you loose a lot of momentum and rpm and the turbo looses it's spool. I know with my civic the way it is I'll beat the GTI because our shifter is butter smooth and if you shift fast you don't loose momentum. But anyway my friend can't drive, I'm sure that car with a good driver it can go to the high 14's. Later on I'll post horsepower #'s for the GTI. We are going to the dyno this afternoon.

Rep Power: 0 yes, a turbo civic capable of running mid to low 14 should not have problem with a near stock gti, since most near stock gti runs 15-16. i used to beat my friend's gti 20th ae all night long at the track
then he got a gt28rs turbo kit, now he runs high 13s ripping his tires with no traction

I think you should have a pretty good chance considering the weight difference... Is the VR6 GTI faster than the 1.8 GTI? I have a friend with the VR6 and it is a pretty quick car.

Rep Power: 0 Hey what's up guy's. Just got back from the dyno with my buddy's GTI. He hit 212HP and 234 lbs of torque. Not bad. He did a lot better than this chipped R32 that was at the shop. When we got there there was a WRX on the dyno, holy **** I never seen a flame this big coming out of a car, it must of been atleast 10 feet long. It backfired when he let go of the gas. The WRX it 383HP to the wheels!

2 - The turbo is "better" than the VR6 when it comes to cheap/easy tuning, but that's about it.
Straight out drag, the VR6 will edge out the 1.8T. It's a little heavier, but has 20 more HP and 30+ more ft-lbs. 1.8T's handle a little better due to the more even weight distribution and slightly lighter, but its close.
1.8T GTi - 2934 lbs in lightest form.
http://www.vw.com/gti/specifications_us.htm
VR6 GTi - 3036
http://www.vw.com/jetta/engspecs.htm
1.8T Jetta - 3037
VR6 Jetta - 3100
Either model, in either trim, will put down times ranging from 15.0-15.5, depending on the driver. That's what a very flat torque curve will do for you. They will also hang with a RSX TypeS until the higher part of 3rd, where the acura will start to pull steadily.

Rep Power: 0 Again, it always depends on the mods...
Both what the civic has, as well as the GTi.
If the GTi's got a big turbo, the civic's in trouble. It'll have to earn it's keep. If the GTi's on the stock turbo, then at best, the civic needs mild tuning.
