300ZX TT/Camaro Z28/Acura TL

something doesnt make sense here. i read this sotry on the TL forums and it cant be true. no way a base TL hung even with a 95 Z28..... correct me if i'm wrong.

this is the story posted by some dude:
================================================== =======
================================================== ==============================================

95Camaro vs 94gen TT 300zx vs '99TL in broad daylight

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ya i know dont race, blah blah...i very rarely do, but when i do i go vs hard cars...we never got past 90mph.

Location: 6lane (3up-3down) straight road, light traffic, the 3 of us AT THE FRONT OF THE LIGHT . Yamato rd vs Jog rd, in boca, Fl. @ 2:00pm!!

Cars: ----95 generation Camaro -looked stock, definetly a V8 (rev sound)
------------94 generation Nissan 300zx Twin turbo -TT mode w/ loud exhaust+
=======>my 1999 A-Tl -reverse gear has a turbo

The story:

Coming home from lunch with my father (after school) i noticed the 300xz and a camaro dodging traffic like crazy, i was like 8cars behind, going slow 'cause a van infront of me, and NO INTENTIONS of racing......that is untill i get to the light where all the cars clear, the camaro and the 300zx are next to each other and so i take the third lane looking for trouble

Action:

take-off arrangememt is (from S->N)Camaro, MT 300xz, Tl

i notice the camaro guy lowers his window and points his finger down the road, the 300zx dud confirms and then i lower my window and ask "we going?" the two guys smile and nod, my involuntaraly reflects turn the A/C off and drop in SS mode.

We wait like 3hours for the frikin light to change, i looked over and BAM the 300zx takes off and a split second later (ya i wasnt paying attention and neither was the camaro) the camaro and i take off at the same time, exept he burns a lot of tires while i take off easily with out even chirping...300zx is like 3-4 CAR LENGTHS (C.L.) infrot...by the time i click into 2nd, the camaro and i catch up to the 300zx (he's slow as ****!). Left in the dust, the camaro and i continue at it untill 80mph when i notisable start gaining distance...OH OH, slow(erer) cars, i safely and smothly dodge the 2 cars blockin my lane and the 300zx's and do it while being 2+C.L.s from the camaro===>pownage

lemmi stop saying I...if it wasnt for the car i'da lost.

We slow down back to 55 (limit 45) so does the camaro and the 300zx...they both line up with [us] and want to go from a roll and the 300zx beeps 1ce, 2ce 3...and off the go...heh, late again, [we] do too...by the time [we] reach 90mph [we're] going the same speed as the camaro but he has like 1/2car on [us]...way infront of the 300zx, [we] stop, and call it a day...i dont wanna beat up on the Tl

We meet at the next light, we pull over and talk for a while

Hope you enjoyed, i'm off to Autodiscount, to get some some Tranny conditioner, fuel system cleaner and some WAX...gotta pamper my car

a base TL wouldn't really hang with an LT1 or 300ZX TT.

Probably a v6 camaro. The z28 is pretty obvious and when people say I could definitely tell it was a v8, has no clue what they are racing. An Lt1 would run all over the tl. Torque curve owns it.

blah torque curve is meaningless in this race.

an lt1 is a low 14 second car, as is a 300zx. a base TL is a low 15 second car. nuff said.

I disagree, torque and when it is delivered is important in this race, to prove that the TL has no shot of pulling on a z28. Edmunds says the 99 Acura TL has 216 pound feet of torque which is reached at 5000 rpm. The Lt1 z28 has 325 lb feet of torque delivered at 2400 rpm, and never ever drops below like 295 lb feet of torque. So not only does the z28 have a sizeable hp advantage, but over 100 lb feet of torque advantage. I believe that is pretty relevant, from the start even to it's peak, the TL is not goin to pull at all. Now a point that is not relevant, but a point to mention is the TL is 0-60 in 7.7 seconds, over 2 seconds slower than a z28.

As the writer said--the Z28 had a bad start and the TL driver would definitely have lost if it weren't for the fact that a slower car on the road blocked/cut off the Z28 as it was catching up.

Plus, the TL driver said something about having a turbo?

More likely that this was a V6 Camaro and a N/A Z32. Both can go low 15's so they would be much better competition for the TL. I could see the TL sticking with the Z28 while he was spinning, but he would get pulled hard when either one got traction.

hahahah, why lie on the internet?

my sister's (soon to be mine) base TL will eat up any stock civic alive. my friend has a 5 speed 02 civic EX and the TL ate him up badly and he is a decent driver. the tranny TLs have where you can shift with an automatic (triptonic?) is pretty nice.

you running very close with a TL is just as stupid as saying you running close with the Z28......

what are you talking about a TL is a low 15 sec car???? There have been 15.4s ran on 17s with civics before and a 15.1 with DRs. The one TL that I raced was most likley an auto and it was very close almost even so you need to check your facts. I don't even know why you posted this even a compleate noob can do the math and say that this is BS.. As for your friend getting owned by your sisters TL it is not my fault that he can't drive

yeah, I don't think so buddy. From what your profile says, you have I/H/E.. There's no way in hell you're gonna hang w/ a TL with those mods. Maybe I'm missing something...

The thing is that that year of an auto TL is a low 15sec car. 5spd NA civics, moded on street tires can run mid 15s to low 16s. So yeah it is unquestionabally a TL advantage, but this is not the strip it is the street there are tons of variables. So on the street a TL and a civic CAN and I stress CAN run close to one another.

he was joking abou tthe reverse turbo.

but dude, i aint trying to start an arguement i'm just saying there is no way your civic can keep up with a TL. when i shift the tranny in the TL i get it close to redline before i shift into the next year and the TL has very good pull in the upper RPMs. no way you could stay up with a TL.... i would have to see it to believe it.

It happend lots of crazy things happen. I raced a GTO the other day and the driver must have had no clue how to drive it because it really did not pull all that hard. Honestly I don't ever BS I have no reason to

Interesting story. I say its believeable becasue if the Camaro were to get traction, it would have won... and the 300ZX's are heavy anyway...

flooring it in a civic is equal to driving normally in a very fast car...... i strongly doubt he was trying to race.

in the end we drive civics...... unless you're packing a turbo or a k20 then racing other cars is what gives civic owners a bad name. i'm pretty sure a mini van can take out a stock civic...... its an economy car which could be made fast but until you make it fast please dont embaress otehr civic owners by racing other cars.

I think the 'reverse turbo' thing is the noise that almost every car makes when going more than a couple mph in reverse. Also, even though our TL was a total piece of crap, it was pretty quick, especially when you got the revs up. EASY low 15's I would think. The launch is probably what keeps it from consistent high 14's.
