Unfortunately this is a story about a pesky Civic driver while car-pooling in my friends truck...
So a friend and I were cruising on our way into Savannah to eat some Mexican
, and a extrordinarily ugly 7th Gen Civic pulls up and starts tailgaiting like crazy. So my friend is like "Ok... what an *******" and gives the Civic driver a little brake check. The Civic driver responds by honking his horn repetitively, pulling up next to us and giving us the finger.
Luckily he couldn't pass because of a vehicle in front of him. Traffic was quite heavy at this point. At this point I get a full glimpse of his "car"... It was such a POS! He had a double wing, a coffe can exaust, and performance brand decals covering his car. I also get the chance to see others riding in the vehicle with him. He had 2 friends in the back seat, and his girlfriend in the passenger seat. This excited my good spirited friend because of his urge to embarress this jackass in front of not only his friends, but his girl...
So at this point luckily both of us had turned off onto a less widely traveled highway into the Sav. It was a newly built road, and it had large straight-aways. So now, traffic had cleared out and it was only about 4 people in sight. 2-3 in front and one guy with what it seemed like his brights on behind us a good bit.
Onto the race... So he gives us a "unfriendly gesture" again and I hear him downshift into third, seeing that we were only traveling at about 65... Then he starts tapping the gas and playing with us.
Some of you may be wondering what my friends truck has in it, so here is a brief explanation of what I understand he has modified. He has a performance chip, dual exaust, some kind of injectors, and other modifications to the engine which I do not know of, seeing that I really don't know anything about domestic truck modification.
Now seeing that my friend has very low patience he decided to "get rid of the pesky honda", and slammed on the gas, pinning it to the floor. The Civic could hardly keep up. and was falling behind to the tailgate. After we reached about 85 I couldn't tell how fast we were going because my friends speedometer only goes to 85... I expect we shut down at about 100 mph...
So we slowed down to about 75 and he does a ricer fly-by after just being owned by a 89 Chevy...
Meanwhile the "guy with the brights on behind us" had been watching us the whole time, and creeping up on us even as we had our "race" with the Civic driver. Soon he is in the right lane next to us... I easily distinguish his vehicle as a black, modified by the sound of the exaust, early model S2K... maybe an 02 or 03...
So he gives us a thumbs up and has a little smile on his face
... And I was like "WTF does that mean?"
Then he downshifts and takes off at a blistering pace. I'm not sure if he was flooring it or not but he was accelerating fast as hell...
So my friend and I have a chuckle about owning the Civic and watching an S2K move up to embarrass the Civic some more. We comment about the S2K being a great car and have a mini argument like usual about Hondas and Chevy's... My friend being brought up in a staunch Chevy enthusiast family has not yet been enlightened to the power of the import but i'm working on it. He prefers Chevy but respects Honda as an excellent car manufacturer.
Anyways... The moral of the story, I think... Is... Why do people like that in the Civic have to give the rest of us a bad name, and reputation as being ricers.
On a side note, later that night we were pulled over for going 41 in a 35.
Luckily he sensed innocence in our youth and let us off with a verbal warning.
