wazzap guys....need advice from you all.... My coworker and I had a deal next week for $200 about who's going to win between me and him with his 1998 camaro z28 and my 2004 Subaru WRX.

his specs are.....5.7L 305 HP V8
Mine was .........2.0L 227Hp TurboCharged ShortShifter...

Both Automatic.

the funny thing is he kept bragging about how my 4 door WRX is just a family car and the Turbo and **** compare to V8 since its a 4door and he beat my other co worker with his 2005 Maxima LE.
he had so much confidence about his V8.

So what do you guys think about this???
we are doing drag race.

I need your Opinion....$200 is too much for me..

my honest opinion your car is alot lighter than his is, not to mention your werx is AWD.. you'll have him from the start but from there he'll get you with top speed.. how long are you planning to race? 1/4?

is it a 6spd or an auto? in an 1/8mile race from a stop youll have him, in the quater mile it'd be close.

both are auto. hard to find 0-60 or 1/4 mile times on auto cars. but if its a manual and the drivers are equally good, the 0-60 should be close and the camaro might have the upper hand in the 1/4 mile. but for 150 yards with the power spliting awd system in the wrx, the wrx might be able to win. anyone know if the wrx has a sluggish tranny?

btw, I think you'll probaby lose this one as much as i love the wrx but 78hp difference good god. do not bet the chips unless you can afford to lose them

thnx guys for all your reply...I been thinking twice the whole day today about racing him....But everytime he talks about how 4 door cars are slow and it's just a family car....2 door cars will always be fast....those are the comments that gives me confidence to race him.

a stock LT1 auto camaro can run about a 14.1-14.2. your auto wrx, cannot.

Stock LT1's can run 13.8-14.0 in the 1/4. The 98 camaro is a Ls1, and will run anywhere from a 13.0-13.4. Unless you put some nitrous on your wrx, you don't have much of a shot. I pulled 3 carlengths in a short stop light to stop light with a wrx with exhaust. You're only shot is an awesome launch.

yeah that's an LS1. you could race to even just 50mph and that guy would own you hard. seriously. it'd be like a beetle racing a vette. if you can back out, do it now. seriously. just swallow your damn pride cuz it ain't worth losing the 200 bucks. there is no way you can win this race, short of god stepping in his path after it starts.

by the way T/A the manual LT1 can run 13.8 the auto is a bit slower at around 14.1-14.2. i was referring to the auto when i mentioned that time.

Yeah, if it was an LT1, I could see you winning if you outdrove him, but LS1, better hope he starts in 3rd on accident... or maybe reverse. I have nothing against WRX's, in fact, I like them a lot, but a stock WRX is a turd compared to an LS1 F-body in the 1/4. Period.

Not quite, s2000man, I've seen plenty of auto lt1's run in the 13's, even as low as 13.6. Mine, even came with a transmission perform button, which acted like a shift kit, where you get harder shifts with the shift points changing. In fact, GM high tech performance, got a 13.87 out of a stock automatic 94LT1 camaro with 103,000 miles. Here's the link if you want to see it.Gm High tech Performance

If the driver can shift extremely well yes, because like any car there is less powertrain loss with the manual. However, the 4L60e which is the auto transmission that comes in the 4th gen f-bodies is the same transmission that comes in the c5 corvettes, and shifts quite well. Many of the magazines who drove the 4th gen f bodies like the autos very much because of the quick crisp shifts, and the little difference between performance between the t56 (the manual) and the 4L60e. Plus, the CAGS is something you have to deal with on the manuals, that most people bypass.

you have an auto WRX!!!! All that the all wheel drive will help with is to get a good launch. Oh wait it is an auto so you can't really launch.... that and the fact that the AWD will have more drivetrain loss I would say the difference is closer to 100hp to the wheels in a car that is no all that much heavier. Plus I think that his being a RWD auto he will actually get not to bad of a launch. You WILL GET OWNED no doubt about it. Infact I bet a good driver and a NA civic with DRs (redline) could even give you a close run. If you wanted to race you should have got a manual SORRY just speaking the truth
