98 LS integra vs 01 honda civic ex

my friend has a 98 LS integra (automatic) and i have a 01 honda civic ex (manual). We were just sitting talking, and i asked him if his car was quick. Then he was like "wanna go do a couple runs" and i was like "in your car", and he was like "both cars", than i was like.."oO alright"...soo then coming out of the intersection we lined up at a roll and gunned it and i was pulling ahead then when i switched to third he ws slightly catching up bt i stil kept on pullin..then we calmed down i exited then went back on the onramp..i turned into the onramp slowly waiting for him to finish the turn then gunned it..he was probably about 3-4 cars behind me.. then i slowed down then we lined up going about 20 than i would pull away... i wanted to get him from a stoplight bt none of the lights turned red....

made me feel good.
the end.

its not "power VTEC" its "economy VTEC" there is no higher lift cam, only a cam for more fuel efficiency at higher RPMs. The ONLY hondas in the US w/ "power VTEC" are the RSX-S, S2000, NSX, (I think) Accord V6 and TL. All others are for economy

the lx or VTi as we call it here in the philippines has this 3 stage vtec... I do think we have almost the same engine we only have it available in 1600 and not in 1700 like yours but the head piece I think is identical.

anyway, 3 stage vtec meaning the 1st stage is the fuel efficient stage where the car is almost running like 12 valves. (3 valves per cylinder) 1 valve is almost shut but opens up just a bit just to let the gas not stay there and get cooked.
2nd stage is the 2800-3000 rpm vtec. the car will run on 16 valves since the valve that's almost shut on the 1st stage will just assume the lob of the 2nd valve.
3rd stage is the 5000-5300 rpm vtec. as they claim it here that there is such a lobe maybe it's not designed to give that much power like the b series or the k series vtec but still I do think it still gives you an edge over normal non vtec cars...

I've beat a few ls 5 speeds. It all comes down to the launch though. cause who ever is in front off the line always takes it.

not all the time... i pulled past another EX with me at a light stopped, when he was approaching. He had an exhaust and probably a CAI, well i'd hope, usually people with an exhaust have a CAI. So it's not always the first person off the line. There are some mods out there that give the EX more power in the top end. I guess you just have to know what you're doing.

It all boils down to the driver... watch 'Initial D'

their are various reasons why an automatic "can" be slower than a manual.
