Rep Power: 0 03 Civic SI Hatch vs. 01 Civic HX Coupe
OK, I just ran my cousin's 03 SI Hatch twice and beat him twice... I was pretty surprised.
Here are the important specs:
01 Civic HX Coupe
Engine:
- D17A6 (V-Tec E Lean Burn) 5-speed
- Injen Short Ram Intake w/ Filter Heat Shield
- 2 1/4 inch custom piping w/ N1 style muffler
- RVM Underdrive Crank Pulley
Concerning Weight:
- 17 Inch White Katana Concept 7
Rubber:
- Kumho 711 Ecsta 205/40/17
03 Civic SI Hatch
Engine:
- K20 (forgot rest of code, but 5-speed not 6-speed) (I-Vtec)
- Injen Short Ram Intake w/ Filter Heat Shield
- RSR Axle-Back w/ 2 1/4 custom piping
Concerning Weight:
- 17 Inch Bronze 5-Zigen rims
- 2 12 inch Subs
Rubber:
- Falken Ziex 215/40/17
We raced on a street that had a slight uphill slope... which i would have thought his torque would have eaten me up??
1st run his launch was pretty terrible so I gained about 1/4 car length and it stayed that way until 3rd gear (75mph)... 2nd run - we launched dead even and were even until I started pulling away at the top-end of 2nd gear (around 5k rpm up) and we stopped at around 75-80 mph again...
Now my questions:
Does my pulley and his added weight make that much of a power difference?
Did his break in period also hurt his car's performance? (He ran his car hard a few times during the break-in period)
And also, I thought the Si Hatch's have a higher redline because I saw his gauges and his redline was the same as mine at 6.8k??

Rep Power: 350 The redlines the same. How many miles are on the SI? It honestly take a while before the motor is completely broken in. And it could be that he does know how to drive the car. Not trying to sound like a **** though.

Rep Power: 0 That is true that the new SI is a bit slower, but still tho the SI should of at least pull away from the 7thgen, unless he sucks at driving, or maybe the engine is not broken into, i guess a kill is a kill!!

Rep Power: 0 I don't get it. I can and have beaten 6th Gen Si's with I/E, and even the people that I haven't raced with 6th Gen Si's, at the track, I get better times than them. And they have the same mods as me.
I even beat my friend who has a 02 Si when I was stock. I haven't raced my friend since I was stock but now he has a CAI.

300+ LBS is in fact alot of extra weight.
01 HX weighs approx 2441 LBS
03 Si weighs approx 2782 LBS
Thats a 341 LB difference and no drop in the bucket.
This extra weight is especially apparent in the corners where wieght is more of an factor.

Rep Power: 0 ok ... i thought about it... and just realized that he shifted into 2nd before me (i shifted at redline, he must've shifted a bit before redline)...
i guess that could also explain why i started pulling away from him top end, because he was at a lower rpm than i was...
so i guess total it up... 3 factors
1. i had an extra bolt on (pulley)
2. his car was heavier (2 12 inch subs + what Zzyzx said)
3. driver (he shifted before me)
1+2+3 = me winning..

The Weight issue is something not even worth mentioning man.
Hey man, it was a race. You won. What is with you making up the excuses? Why are you acting like you should not have? What's with you!

i looked up the weights of our cars and
HX = 2434 lbs
SI = 2744 lbs
but next time, i'll drive his SI and he'll drive my HX and we'll see what happens...

Rep Power: 0 Be sure to tell him how to launch your car and be sure to ask how he launches his car. Yeah you have a civic and you are not use to winning in it but, you were racing another civic!!

Rep Power: 0 i have both cars. 2000 si and 2002 si. the two cars are exactly the same stock and mod for mod. the only difference is the 2000 has a lot better top end stock. stock 2000 si i ran a 15.7 at 90mph, stock 2002 si i ran 15.7 at 88 mph. more torque gets it off the line but when vtec kicks in the 2000 it goes. i ran a 14.8 in my 2002 si with i/h/e on stock rims and tires. and yur right about the weight, me in my 2002 si with full interior i weighed 2880. no offense, but i'd call that win bad driving, but on the street a win is def a win what 1/4 times are you runnin with yur car? again i'm not talking **** or anything, just throwin some numbers out for ya.

not likely....the only thing owned around here are the people that paid good money for a higher performance vehicle and instead got a giant wedge of cheese on wheels.

BTW, you are sorely mistaken, because a significant percentage of cars on this forum would take you in a race, including lightly modded 'lesser' civics, my 'base' Mustang, and several other cars that browse this forum. The Si is a good car, just not an impressive car in near-stock form and it doesn't take much for its "lesser" 7th Gen brethren to beat it. PERIOD.
Oh, and for future references, you should avoid making blanket statements like the one above when you drive a 15-16 second car.

Rep Power: 0 I agree. There is not a big enough gap between the 7th Gen Si and the DX/LX/EX as their was with the 6th Gens. Honda shouldn't of have kept 160hp and added 100+ lol.

Rep Power: 0 "EEEEEEEEEHHHHHH" where in ept are you I live on the east side. Well anyway I have an 03 si and still have yet to lose to a 99-00 si or to an hx, dx, lx, ex. I would say it was a bad driver, but still on the streets a win is a win. So good kill. Ask the guy what he's launching at, or tell him to quit racing until his car is broken in. But good going anyway.

Rep Power: 315 well.. 6thgen si's are not fast in stock form, at least compared to the 01 ex... when done up with serious mods.. they can run mid to low 15's.. given hardcore mods.. they will run 12's
