My next RACE CAR (opinions/suggests??)
I'll be graduating this summer from cal poly pomona with a mech. engineering degree.
I'll be a 2nd LT. in the US Air Force as a Civil Engineer.
I'm planning to buy myself a graduation gift. Another car.
I have been road racing and canyon a lot running for the pass year with my civic. A great stock
car to learn to race with.
I'm planning on buying a Integra Type R. Yes, I know its a FWD car.
My reasons:
Double wish bone
Honda engineering
Stock
195-210 horsepower (domestic or JDM)
race proven
LSD
I basically want a road race car that i can race stock. I'm almost to the limit of my D17 motor for road racing.
I really don't like the idea of having internal work done on a motor, u can't beat onda engineering. Beside, all the shops in the U.S. are real idiots when it comes to motor work. I know this because my friends work in some of the largest shop in the U.S. and they told me U.S. is so behind Japan.
This is not immediate, probably by the end of the year thing. I just want some time to think of my options.
Other options:
S2000
EG or EK with ITR motor

^^^ yeah I like that one.
But not overly cheap to fix.
Miatas are pretty cheap to do.
I guess you could pick up an early NSX for about 30K if you wanted to learn how to drive it.
Same would go for a 911 (another gem to learn to drive and fix)
There aren't too many cars these days you can pull out of the dealer and race. They've pussied them out for middle age crisis wusses in need of some sort of self esteem boost to pull them out. Everything now is tuned for the road... sports cars can be driven by grandmothers... its rediculous. No one wants to learn how to drive anymore. Pick up an old Ferrari or a Viper with no power steering... that'll be a car to learn how to drive.

One of the guys I autocross with is a good 6' + and 250 LBS, runs a miata... what he did is bolt a race seat to the floor, gave him a good 3 extra inches head clearance and a few inches leg too.
This is the Car,
Only problem is the car is only set up for him to drive....
My next race car will either be a 1.8L Miata (the first year, its the lightest) or an 88 CRX Si (Light and has the same rear suspension as the Integra Type R, really Part # to Part#)

I would go with a 350z or an EVO 8.... I heard those RX8 actually proving to be good cars, not my cup of tea though.
Personally I take a G35 above everything! its expensive though

I agree with the older M3. Maybe not the cheapest, but it has been named one of the best handling cars of all time, stock!! Not bad on speed at all, some Dinan mods, chip etc. and that thing will be set. Even though they're a lil expensive to have fixed, they're not too hard to work on yourself!! That's my 2 cents!!

E30 M3s are great cars, and in my opinion the Only true Race M3 (Its the only one that was designed as a race car first then modified to be street legal.) But then your talking about spending $15,000 on a good one, and parts for mantinance arnt cheep either. and your also talking about a 15 Year old car (so bushings and the like are probably in need of replacement). I would love to have one, but but you have to be aware of the possible problems of owning one.

the ITR is my #1 for now, there is just something about it that I LOVE
hopefully the price will drop down a bit when i purchase it, since
everyone is going into 240's for drifting

why not go Full race car???
Like a Formula Ford
or a D Sports Racer?
Formula Atlantic???
or a nice Sports 2000 Racer
If you want it to be street legal you could always get a Seven

If it's just strickly a race car, and you wanted something farely cheap go for the ITR. I'd be one to sport that around the highschools! LoL.
Whats the 3rd gen RX-7 called, FD? It would be perfect if you junked out the unreliable TT rotary and popped in the new Renesis; 228 hp NA from 1.3L. Or you could do like the guy did in modified and think about an SR20det or even lighter, an S2k conversion. But the FD platform is a work of art, but somewhat rare.
The new rotary isn't a piece of crap, it just is less than many expected. Mazda claimed early on that it would be within 5 hp of the FD, or 250. When they made it pass U.S. emissions, it was watered down to like 228. But I think your irked by rotaries, right?

What about a WRX?? Ive seen them on a road course & they seemed to be doing pretty well. But i dont know how well they perform as opposed to other cars mentioned, I saw them all racing each other( Subaru Day @ Motorsport Ranch ) but you would think AWD would come in handy, plus you can crank 350+ hp out of them no problem, even more with internals.
This is what im looking to buy next, but I want to eventually get into roadcourse racing so im actually kindof curious how they perform in roadcourse/autoX.
Linked from the other thread. This guy freaking owned everybody that day, his car was freaking sweet, pretty cool guy too.

^^ stock to stock, a WRX cant beat an Integra R in autocross or on a road course.
and thats the COBB WRX, very well known in the SCCA Solo 2 National Tour. (autocross and Pro Solo)
Guy that owns it is a very good driver, and the thing is set up for (SM) Street Modified, so Its Bairly streetable (Trailer Queen).
