Once And For All
ok.....enough, the other night a bunch of guys i know got together to finish this once and for all......
he has a 2001 ex manual with some MOD chip, intake, and exhaust. i have an 02 rsx base automatic with intake and exhaust. we started with a flagger 3 times. each time he was
revin in neutral and then throwin it in to first and i was starting from a dead stop. i took him in first and second gear. and after that he just couldnt catch me. i beat him all three times and i had my wife in the car and he had no one. so there, all you guys sayin a civic will beat an rsx, can kiss my big brown *** cuz you dont know what your talking about. and no it wasnt the drivers fault. NO EXCUSES.

who said a civic can beat a rsx? even a base rsx?
160 hp stock v. 127 hp stock.
even with the mods, it isnt even close to being fair.
so uhh....good job for proving nothing.

i was just sayin this because there was a lot of arguments about a civic can beat an rsx and its stupid. i dont know **** about racing with stick so C2i0v0i1c,your rightabout the clutch thing. and FLAVOR247,i have no clue.
i beat a bone stock rsx with the mods i have and i dont think anyone has said that a stock civic would take a stock rsx i also beat an integra gsr stock of course but if both cars had mods i would lose
Um, hey guys.... The "Type S" is the SAME car with bumped up compression....
All they did was increase max hp slightly. HOWEVER, by increasing the compression ratio, they REDUCED where the tq curve hits it's max peak.
Therefore, the "base" RSX actually would be more fun to drive because it hit's it's max torque rating of 160lbs/ft at like 4,000 rpms instead of waiting all the way until 6,200 rpms.
Which is also why even a slightly "modded" civic could never beat an RSX off the line (assuming both have manual trannies).
Toque = off-the-line power
Horsepower = top-speed

Cut the freakin' crap
lease: Man...ya'll aren't even creative anymore. Can you even READ at which RPMS the peak hp and tq hit??? Or can you only read peak hp figures? Give me a break.Personally, I would rather have the base 5spd anyday. Honestly, I think besides the auto tranny ya'll are just jealous. I know I would rather have an RSX any day of the week over a Civic, but we are planning for the future and saving for the next car we'd like to own. At least I'm real about it...
It's like the R6 sportbike. Impressive numbers on paper, but there are other bikes that "aren't as fast" that are a HELLUVA lot more fun to ride on the street...which is where most people ride 90% of the time. So if bragging rights are the only thing that matters, then don't even LOOK at the base. But if you are looking for a car that's genuinely fun to drive, both models are worth a look. Some people like the ooomph of more torque, others like the high mph top end. Don't rag on either, man...not cool.

you dont know much about HP and Torque do you???
Torque = acceleration
Horsepower is an expression of Torque @ RPM
and for a sports car it is better to have your torque peak at a high RPM then a Low RPM because you can take advantage of something called Gearing...... More acceleration for a longer duration.
SO no is is not better for your 160 HP to peak at 4,000 RPM.
Okay...you say he doesn't know much about torque, but you didn't really contradict his statement at all
Perhaps peak torque @ high rpms is ideal for benchracers that like to fantasize about what is potentially possible with their practical, STREET vehicles, but I'll take a low end torque MONSTER any day over a car that will smoke that vehicle at 80+mph. It's more fun for everyday driving without speeding on the freeways like a reckless idiot. Now if you're Hans on the Autobahn with your 911, then we can talk
So YES, it is better for the average person's purposes for your 160 HP to peak at 4,000 RPM if your usual time in the car consists of driving to school/work.

Oh really? Then explain why my 4:56 gears coupled with my 6-spd Tremmec ran low 11's naturally aspirated ('88 Mustang notchback 331 stroker motor with cam/heads/intake/exhaust only) while the stock geared Corvette next to me can't turn low 13's for ****???
If we're talking canyon carving, then I'll take a Porsche anyday of the week. Yes, "sports cars" are more enjoyable to enthusiasts due to their WIDE gearing ratios. However, that sort of gearing sucks ***** for 1/4 or 1/8 mile racing.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but he was talking about a straight-line race. Keep your applications straight. If he was saying, "Oh, this Civic killed me around this turn while I was in 3rd gear," then you might have a leg to stand on.

You explained it your self, Gearing...
and Im glad you brought this up because I can post this Link and call it a night.
Oh, and it applies to both road racing and Drag.

That is a very interesting article, and I have seen it posted several times on multiple auto boards, thanks for refreshing it in my memory
. In fact I'm going to read the whole thing again. However, as I tried to imply in my last post, you misunderstood my stance.
I see Civics and RSXs as really nice and fun daily transportation. I don't race them. I don't EVER want to race them. My sporting interests lie in other types of automobiles with different characteristics. I don't desire to have a high revving, naturally aspirated 4 cylinder vehicle for a race car OR a commuter car. It's just not my cup of tea.
My main point was that for some of us, the base model is actually more desirable, and it's extremely humourous to see someone driving a Civic to make fun of someone who decided to buy the base RSX, which is still a more luxurious and sportier automobile. Coming up with witty punchlines such as "Aint that the truth without the S you still aint ****..." is exactly what gives Civic drivers the reputation that is being debated in the Off Topic forum right this minute...IMMATURE.
lease: I'm not saying YOU do this, but it's getting veeery old to see people that have obviously done a preliminary scan of the spec sheet and read this month's issue of Sport Compact Car, diss on the "NON SPORTY" model
It still astounds me to see how many people will continously rag on a car without ever having DRIVEN the damn thing. Sorry, I guess it's just a pet peeve...

We're talking about the SAME exact car here. One with a higher compression ratio and one with a lower compression ratio.
Car A peaks at 4,000 rpms
Car B peaks at 6,200 rpms
Every time car A shifts, he is reaching his peak torque approximately 2,200 rpms quicker than Car B. Therefore, he can shift from 1st -> 2nd -> 3rd, etc..... without waiting for his tranny to reach that 6,200rpm mark. Reason dictates that he will reach 60mph or 80mph (or whatever) quicker than car B simply because he's not taking as long to get there. It's purely a "timing issue." It has nothing to do with either car being more power. They are just configured differently.
I am NOT arguing that 160 lbs of torque is any DIFFERENT, regardless of when it peaks. What I am saying is that the car with the lower peak will always reach it's goal slightly faster, simply because the other car must wait longer to reach that SAME point in time. Unless of course, you are saying that the resulting increase in compression ratio and horsepower allows the Type R to reach 6,200 in the SAME amount of time it takes the Base model to reach 4,000 rpms. Then you have a very valid point.
Truly, I have no idea if that is the case at all. I'm assuming the Base model would shift from gear to gear slightly quicker than the Type S (if both parties know how to race).

Torque is the only thing that a driver feels, and horsepower is just sort of an esoteric measurement in that context. 300 foot pounds of torque will accelerate you just as hard at 2000 rpm as it would if you were making that torque at 4000 rpm in the same gear, yet, per the formula, the horsepower would be *double* at 4000 rpm. Therefore, horsepower isn't particularly meaningful from a driver's perspective...
That is what I was *trying* to say

Just wanted to point out that the base rsx and the type-S do not share the same engine with minor discrepencies in compression. The K20A2 (type-s) may share the same block (save for pistons &what-not), but the head is a truly different beast altogether.
