Got my *** handed to me by a sleeper 02 SI.
Coming home from dinner after work, I was nearing my house when I got stopped by a red light. I was just patiently waiting for it to turn when a stock looking 02 SI pulls up next to me. Only thing I could tell from looking at him was it was lowered and I could hear his exhaust purring. We were on a 2 lane highway with a solid mile to go before the next light so I rolled down my window and asked if he wanted to play around for fun. I knew I was going to lose, but I was curious about the speed difference between an LX and what I thought to be *slightly* modded SI. He looked back at me kinda nervously, but agreed, and we both started to stage a bit.
We were still kinda looking at each other and conversing when the light went green, so we started off kinda slow and hit it at the same time. And right about now was when i nutted myself. We were going 10-12mph when we both punched it, and I just heard his tires light up. I was thinking I would have some sort of a chance with him spinning his tires like that, but it wasnt enough, we stayed dead even till the top of 1st. By now I was thinking, "ok, those SI's arent as fast as people claim them to be." But that thought was quickly shot into the ground when he hit into 2nd and took off like a bat outta hell. I mean gone, cya, lates!
By the time I was up to 50ish he already had 4 or 5 cars on me, and he just kept going. I was ready to **** myself for not buying a SI at that point. I didnt hear any BOV, and I figured it would have had to be a BIG shot of nitrous to pull away like that. Needless to say, I was very curious and VERY jealous.
We both slowed down again, hit another red light, and he asked me if I wanted to go again.
I definetely wanted to see more of this car so I readily agreed. 2nd race, same outcome. Kept with him in 1st until he hit 2nd, then it was all over again. He ran though his gears so quickly I didnt understand wtf was going on. By the time I shifted into 2nd, he was almost into 3rd and pulling father away. I was dying to know what he had, so I got him too follow me into a parking lot and talk to him.
He popped the hood and it looked like any other SI bay to me, only thing of notice was an AEM intake. No nitrous tanks anywhere in the car, no turbo.. just a stock looking SI in and out.
But then he told me his little secret... K20a2, Type-R Cams, DC header, Hondata ECU flash, AEM fuel rail, and a few other little goodies. Now I was beginning to understand why he tromped me so badly. According to him, hes putting out a little over 220hp to the wheels with everything hes done. It was gorgeous, everything looked stock inside and out, but it was making some GOOD numbers. We talked for the better part of an hour about his car and mine, turned out to be a really cool guy who lived around me. He asked about my 7thgencivic.com stickers so i told him to check us out seeing how his wife has a modded 7th gen as well.
He took me for a ride and I fell in love. 8800 RPM redline, and it felt amazing the higher up the rpm range he went. Just a constant pull through all the gears. He's never been to the track, but I bet he would put down some good numbers.
Anywho.. that was my little adventure for the night. It really makes me wanna get a swap now, instead of the turbo route. Definetely a fun car! Hes trying to keep everything hush hush about the car so he can be the perfect sleeper, and believe me he's doing a damn good job with it. The best part of the whole thing was him telling me afterwards when I asked him if he wanted to "play around" he thought I was gonna own him. I dont think he has to worry about that happening anytime soon.

When are you EM2 owners gonna listen to me when I say that the EP3 is fast? I raced a guy from EP Hatch about a year ago. Both times we raced I jumped 1-1.5 cars ahead of him, but by the time we hit 3rd gear he owned my ***.
I'm sick of these newbies who think that the EP is a slow car. It's damn fast and I have much respect for it.

There are civics here with the SF kit that put out what 180ish to the wheels and they are in the 13's correct? Why wouldnt an SI putting over 220 to the wheels being only 300lbs or so heavier be in the 13's?

there's just some shity, and I mean shitty si drivers out there...I don't know what they are doing. I've seen so many at the track hit 16.3's with i/h/e....meanwhile I'm hitting 15.5's with my heavy *** 17's and all weather tires in Texas heat....oh well. nice death! but I doubt he was a 13 second Si. if he only pulled 4 -5 cars on you hes prolly mid 14's - low 14's at best. my car is slow as do poo and I can put more then 5 lenghts on a vic, even a few if they run moderate amount of n20. but sounds like his car has the potential. he just might need more time behind the wheel. you should run him again and get it on vid. that'd be pretty cool.

edit...never mind, I just reread the post...he said that guy had type r cams...I've been told by type s owners they didn't notice much of anything out of those cams. I saw the 220whp..and immediately thought of the toda package...definitely a 14 sec si.

well driver acounts for 80% of any race so if he isnt used to the power yet he'll run very bad times. Also I was told that every .1 = about a car length. so if he had you by 5 thats .5 seconds. so if you knew what you ran you'd have a pretty good guess where he'd be.
seen a noob wrx owner run 9.8 in the 1/8 which is about 14.9. mainly cause he wasnt used to the car. so anythin can happen. lol
sometimes losing aint all that bad. lol

No said he had me by 5 cars by the time i was up to 50mph. I didnt even bother to keep on going past then because he was just gone. I didnt even shift into 3rd cuz he was already so far ahead both races.

He had stock SI wheels with some sticker tires as well, nothing to really slow him down. I watched that vid and his car pulled harder then that.

the k20a2's have 200hp at the flywheel.......whp is around 170-180. Plus they have low torque.......around 140 ft/lbs.
A stock EX at 8psi was dyno'ed at 183 whp and 189 ft/lbs of torque. Catalyst ran a 13.6 and futurersxswap ran a 13.7 with many mods.
Those k20's have high reving motors, but that results in low torque.
His car is prolly in the mid 14's.
