foot on break rev to somewhere around 2500 rpms, when third yellow light in staging flashes drop the clutch. If you don't go at the 3rd yellow light you will have a crapy reaction time and more than likely already be behind half a car.

wtf are u talking about.
I stage.
Raise the clutch, rev my engine. And feather the clutch until I am done spinning.
I always launch on people.

I dont. I just stage and put my foot on the clutch. What happens when you forget the hand brake is up? I launched at 3k, but that was when I was stock. I could launch right now at about 4k to 4500.

^^^Yeah excessive spinning is bad.

some tracks like irwindale speedway have a slight dip at the line so you tend to roll a bit. The easiest way is to use the ebrake. it really screws with your r/t though.

Ive never drag raced, But I have practiced for fun on deserted country roads. And I pull the ebrake up just enough to stop the car from rolling but keeping the button pressed so that I can drop it back down quickly. I rev the gas to about 2500 and hold it there and then let out the clutch quickly and then push the gas pedal down to the floor softly but quickly. If you kick the gas down youll get some wheel spin/hop and youll waste power. Your launching revs will highly depend on pavement/tires/temperature. You have to find the right RPM to propel the car without breaking too much traction.
I've never used ebrake or the foot brake.... I'd always just sit there in nuetral at the staging line rev'd around 3000-3500 and go on 3rd yellow.... never had a problem with the car rollin around at the tracks I've been to
I'll flip out and kill people.

iluvbrit.... I wouldn't ask us FWD owners hwo to launch man... You EVO8 is a lil diff from out civics and celicas...
After launching my friends GSX a few times (same engine as you bro! 4G63) here's what I learned...
Instead of keeping a constant rpm, fluctuate it by flooring it and letting off. This way you can get your turbo spooling. Launch at about 5.5k rpms. Don't sidestep or you'll bog. Let off the clutch aggressively but don't lock it up right away, as soon as you see you rpms dip down to about 5k as your accelerating, make sure you're completely pff the clutch. Keep the gas mashed down for the rest of the way, lettin off only to shift. I was chirping all 4 tires on my friends GSX before he changed his clutch.
Messing around with my friends evo that I work on, it's very easy to launch those things if you rev high enough. Just remember to keep the turbo spooled to help prevent bogging,
Mod I reccommend, MSD ingition system. They come with a 2 stage rev limiter. When the clutch is in, stage 1, such as let's say, 4500rpms. Keep it floored with the clutch in and you'll never pass 4500. The best part is, at 4500, your car will be making about 15-16psi of boost. As soon as the light turns green, quickly let off the clutch, keeping it floored the whole time. There's your perfect lauch. Expect nearly identical 0-60' times from that point on...

when i drag i stage, let the clutch to the point just before it engages, rev to 4000 rpm, and launch between the 2nd and 3rd yellow. also you want a little bit of wheel spin , or positive slip, for maximum acceleration.

just to give you an idea. go to this video, it's me racing at the track, I don't see any problem with how I launch, and I don't use the e-brake, I usually launch on anybody any given day.

Someone also said that the handbrake mehtod really messes up your r/t. Well then how are you supposed to win a race? I know you guys are going to say it doesn't count your r/t but it does. I guess if your just going for a "good time" then the e-brake would work, even though I don't see the since in it. But when racing another person, your fauked.
^^ there are ways to compensate
I still get .5's any time I want to actually take the other person. when it's just me vs clock I don't worry about it. But it's good to warn people who don't know that it does affect your r/t since it adds an extra step.
also the vid doesnt help when we cant make out your 60' and can't see the tree.
I would be cool if you could remove the BG music & up the quality of the file so we can see things clearer. look to me like you got a better r/t on that run by about .2 give or take. Do you still have the timeslip for that run?

Well I can clear it up, but it's not bg music, it's actual music they play at the place. And as far as r/t's go. I am going again this weekend so I will get a better vid.
