Raced a turbo neon ess ar tee fuor
had the opportunity to have a little run with a neon SRT4. I don't really race much on the street anymore, but the opportunity came earlier this morning, so I took a quick run.
I was on the freeway and had a yellow neon SRT4 pass by me. I fell in behind him, letting him lead, as we sped down the freeway. Eventually traffic cleared and I moved into the right lane, expecting the neon to keep going on his merry way.
Instead he slowed down and settled in next to me. we were already going about 75, and I thought immediately he probably wanted to race. Maybe he was pissed that I let him "lead" and he wanted to show me how ricer cool he was. His flashing valve stem tips on his wheels were enough to show me his ricer coolness. Other than that modification (hey maybe they weigh less than the stock valve stem caps?) the car looked otherwise stock.
Now here's the confusing part. He downshifted and took off a bit, then slowed down. I downshifted and we took off. At first he pulled a little bit, but once I went into 4th gear, we stayed even. And then I pulled on him. Just edging him out more and more. By the time I shut down his front wheels were about at my back wheels.
Now I'm not saying that an accord is faster than an SRT4, but I'm a little confused about this because I honestly expected him to pull on me. Hrm.

Well I think the majority of your SRT4 owners are going to run 14.2-14.5 or so. Take away the launch advantage the neon has, and that becomes closer to a 14.4 or 14.5 freeway rolling speed.
13.9 is going to be few and FAR between for a stock neon srt4. of course.... if you have the "lighter than stock" flashy valve stems.. well then I guess you'll hit 13.9 all day. lol

I thought that neons didn't have the launch advantage. I thought they were catchup cars. In the videos and stories that i've heard, they always edge out their competition at the end.

He traded the S2k in for an EBP 7thgen coupe, and now he has the Accord. Welcome to last week. See what happens when you only post in OT? You miss out on everything else that goes on in the world.
