Help on 1/4mile Launch

Alright, I need some advice on getting a good launch for my civic. I have exhaust, and intake and am hitting 2.6, and 2.7 60 ft. I know that is horrible, but I dont know how to get the times down. I launch at about 2000 rpms, my tires do spin a little. I have 17s, with 40 series tires, so what pressure should I set it at?? If you guys could give me some pointers I would appreciate it. Also how do you guys let the clutch out, quickly, or slowly?? Let me know.

well my first suggestion is launch higher and give it less gas when you let out the clutch. also make sure you lower your tire pressure!

Good luck

if u have an auto...shift to neutral, have ur foot on the gas...say about 4k rpm....then drop it to D...thats the best way to launch with a automatic

manuals are hella slow...

btw, do not double post...ibtl

Drop the tire pressure to mid 20's. I let the clutch go out quickly, but its up to you. What type of 17's? They could be slowing you down. WHen I was stock, I launched at 4k rpms and dropped the clutch. I came out with a 16.5 first run of the night.

also you can raise the pressure in your rear tires for less rolling resistance!

So true. Have the car in D and hold the brake and gas at the same time. Or e-brake and gas. You will f#@& up your transmission if you do a neutral drop in a auto.

Front = 18 psi for 1/4 mile 15 psi for 1/8 mile
Rear = 5 lbs more then maximum allowed for the tire! (this will make them roll hella good)

I have always been told 4k is a good area to be for you launch, but to let off the gas a little as you pop the clutch so your tires can grab instead of just spinning

when I had the 17's on I was hittin 2.6's -2-8's
they are just too damn heavy.

On the stock 15" firestones launch at 2,800 rpm with the tire pressure at
23lbs psi.

Lowering the tire pressure will make you have quicker 60 ft times but slower trap
speed.

Racing 15's or 16's will better your track times. between 15 and 25 psi is a good amount for your front tires. Just dont run on 15 psi all night, as in, fill them back up at the closest gas station to avoid uneven wear on the tire. You need to experment (sp) at what rpms to launch at. Lots of people launch at 4k rpms, but start at 3k and if that doesnt work, go 500 rpms higher. Keep doing that untill you are feeling like you cant improve your launch any more and that will be your launching ppoint.

Lowering your trap speed doesnt always mean a higher ET. Also letting your air out doesnt always lower your trap speed. I've gotten some pretty high trap speeds and I ALWAYS lower my air pressure to 15psi - 1/8 & 18psi 1/4 what happens is your tires heat up and expand when you race so you dont really notice a big loss of pressure.

If I can I would role forward for the start (can't do that at the track) I bring the car to around 3,500 and hold the clutch right at the release point. Release the clutch and go.... it has been working pretty good for me but the first time i tried it i stalled :-( that was like 6 years ago though

when I tried launchin at 3500 I bogged like no tomorrow. lol I have to launch at 6500 - 6800 to get a good 60'. lol I wish I could launch lower cause it's a pain when you line up next to someone who couldnt stage if their life depended on it.

^ Ya. True that. I know what you mean. You could hold low rpms until the other racer stages and then go higher. Its up to you.

For one, I wouldnt be out on the drag strip with my 17's mounted. Thats what drag radials or stock steelies are for.

If the tree your track is using is like all the one's I've used, launch on the last amber light. Your car can't possibly red light. In my old car (1974 Camaro) I used to launch on the last amber and cut almost perfect lights. The same holds true with my Vic.

Just my $0.02.
