A trip to the Subaru dealership.
A trip to the Subaru dealership.
Today I went to the Subaru dealership about 45 minutes away to check out some base Imprezas. My parents said that a car with AWD would be more useable for the activies I like to do, which include rock climbing, and kayaking, with the occasional mountain biking binge. Needless to say, a rack with a kayak stacker doesn't look to "racey" on my 2k2 civic ex, and i've been having trouble getting to some of my favorite areas due to terrain problems. At the dealership I test drove an Impreza RS 5spd, which was a great car. I dreamingly asked if I could hop in a WRX, and the dealer was happy to hand over the keys to an automatic version. Which was still quite impressive. Then my dad suddenly chimes in, "Didn't you want one of those SPI cars?", and i was like "ya dad, the STI" in a correcting voice. Then he says to the dealer, "Can we order one of those?", the dealer responds with a smile on his face, "Sure can do". At first I though this was some kind of sick joke, a very sick joke. But after the papers were signed, financing approved, and the order sent in for a new 2004 Black STI w/ silver 17" spoke rims, reality hit me
. I was getting a new STI. On the way home my dad mentions that the only reason he did this was to congradulate me on my chancellors scholorship, worth $45,000, and applicable to any college I choose, and of course graduation. My legs are still shaking from this experience. I will miss my pretty blue 2k2 EX, and all the fun we had. I will probably be parting off my car, so keep a lookout in the for sale section for some deals. Thanks for the all the info you guys have provided.

, its still kinda hard to believe. Its like something so far off is suddenly right in your hands. I think this is going to be psychologicly damaging to me.

Congrats and all, but I'm not sure I see how this is going to help all that much. Sure its All Wheel Drive and essentially a rally car, but when it all shakes out, you've got a roof that's no bigger than the civic, and now you've got a huge wing to deal with. You don't think theres any chance of messing that up at all throwing kayaks and bikes on and off the car or that you won't accidentally drop the kayak, miss the cradle or have it slip out of your hands and slide on the side of the car while you're putting it up there (I know the things that can go wrong, I've got a single and a tandem)?
Sounds to me like you should have been looking into the wagon, or probably better yet, a small SUV. But hey... whatever, you'll figure out how to keep the wing safe, so have fun.

Both my boats are small playboats. They shouldn't be much of a problem getting on and off. I've gone through the SUV phase and will never return. I loved my old pathfinder but gas mileage just sucked. Ya, I probably could have gotten a better car for the purpose, but come'on! its an STi, i'm willing to make some sacrifices. Thanks for the input.
