How NOT to sell a car....

This has nothing to do with a Honda Dealer, so you're all safe... it has to do with the local BMW dealer who my dad placed an order for a 2003 325i Wagon 5 speed. When he ordered it, he was told there would be no problem getting the car ordered and in fact, they had one due for someone else configured almost identically to his. He got a call back yesterday (a week after ordering it) informing him that they were not able to get a 5 speed RWD wagon, but they could get an AWD one. Now ok, fine, an extra driven axle... but they wanted to charge him for it. Now remember... he placed an order for specifically what he wanted, and signed the order... which basically means, "Get this car"... and their offer to him was to take $500 off of an $1800 option and sell the car. He didn't take it... In fact, it just pissed him off even more that they were going to insult him by making him pay extra for something he had no desire to have. Then they made up a story about how there were no RWDs available in the country and none due on their incoming list... which is beside the point because the car was a factory special order to begin with... Bottom line, they weren't willing to order him the car, he cancelled it, and they lost the sale of a $34000 car.
Talk about a bunch of stupid businessmen.... all they had to do was get what he wanted, which was no problem a week ago, or cut the price of the AWD out and sell him the car... he was already paying sticker since it was an order, so its not like they were gonna lose money, they were just too bullheaded and stupid to pull it off. Now the manager is calling my house trying to get my dad back in to work something out... but he had nothing of it...

He's reserved his other choice... a 2003 VW Passat GLX V6 Wagon
Blue Anthracite with Black Leather
Climate Control
Monsoon Audio
Sunroof
16" wheels
2.8L 30V V6, 190HP
5 speed
And whatever else the GLX comes with.. Its a shitload.

So that's VeeDub #2 in my house... He's gotta make the 3 hour drive to Ann Arbor to pick it up, where he got lucky and found one that someone else cancelled (he got it for $29006 rather than almost $31K they wanted here in town), so that's next weekend's road trip.
It's a totally different kind of car... it's more of a cruiser than a sporty thing... butter smooth power, decient handling, but it's a lot bigger than the Bimmer and I think he's happy about that... and the 5 grand he saved should cover 91 octane for the life of the car.

Noted. Oh yeah, with Mercedes, you can't just order one thing. For example, if you want a sunroof, you get the rear sunshade and a rainsensing wipers along with it. $1800 addition mind you. Its ridiculous.

We spent 2 years shopping for the most advanced textile machery that existed or that we could have built. The Japanese were willing to do a joint development program with us, the Swiss were willing to work with us, but the Germans already had the "best" machines and we would have to buy whatever it was they already had.

I believe they call that bait and switch in the world of sales.
either that or the sales guy didn't know what he was doing. Anyhow
if I were you I'd be trying to talk dear ol dad into an M3. Tell him during a
midlife crisis its good to have a fast car to stay young.

Think about who still makes wagons...
VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Volvo, (Subaru, but it's more SUV like)

Now... that makes 4 of the 6 options German.
The Bimmer fell off cuz of stupidity, the Benz E wagon is about 50K, my dad thought the A4 was too small, and Volvo is a Ford... what are you left with... VW.
Besides we haven't had any huge problems with the Jetta, hell, I almost bought a Golf, but it was too damn slow, so it makes sense that he went this way... its a lot of car for the money. Thats why he bought a VW.

Wow, my dad got screwed over by the VW dealer. It's not a brand thing. It's on a dealer by dealer basis.

Yeah, we did have 1 BMW dealer **** us off when buying our Z3. Sales lady was a biatch or something so my mom had the car she wanted shipped to the other BMW dealer in town and bought the car there.

Our volkswagen dealer was nice to us too. We havent had any problems either. I still think my Honda dealer is the nicest though, always willing to help me out.

We bought a car from them probably around the end of '93. The new '94 Accords came out and my mom really wanted on. From what I remember, we really had good luck with them, good deal also. We ended up getting a '94 Honda Accord 4 door EX in Sage blue. That was the best car!!

Here in houston dealers are really sneaky always trying to rip u off. I'm a student paying for my own car so when I was getting my new car I wanted to get best deal. My choice was honda civic i went to russel and smith honda located in south part of houston. I Found nice civic lx 2d silver manual "sweet car". So i thought lets see how much is it, sales person said 14.750 thats the price. Of course i wasnt going for it, so with little nagotiation i got it down to 14.175 and that was with 150 they were giving me for my trade.
and sales a$$ was saying that is lowest that can sell that car for. Then he was showing me that dealer cost was 14.075 "road apples" I wanted to see how much will total cost be the so they added window eching Ok plus TTL around 15500 then they hit me up with 12.5% interest f*** no. After that I left the dealership. Next day I went to goodson honda got 2002 civic EX with all thew goodies 5spd red 2d for 14000 with 1.9% interest. now thats a good deal.
So just shopping around can make a huge difference in not getting screwed over.

my family buys cars from this one person, he works at a chev/olds/cadillac dealer.. apparently the top salesperson in Canada... it's an american auto dealer, but they can sell you any brand of auto available in North America... basically we pay MSRP for peace of mind., and worry free car buying experience. Sometimes that's all you want, instead of haggling for invoice price, free mats, oil change, etc etc.

A6 Too much, IS300 is sporttronic only (stupid push button thing) and tiny.

The Bimmer is back on He found another dealer that had some room in their 2003 allotment and was able to order him the car, and also just gave him a straight answer that RWD was a discontinued option on the sport wagon and just no longer possible to get anywhere. So he finally got his honest answer, and ordered the car (July delivery). He got $1000 off of sticker, I have no idea how much it came to... somewhere around 34.
So its a 325xiT 5 speed in Steel Blue Metallic I'm glad he did... cuz I just don't think he would have been nearly as happy with the Passat... time to sign him up for "Drivers Ed" ... what a great Fathers Day present that would be...
