when parking... do you pull the e-brake or put it in first?
my dad (im a collge student) always puts his '86 325i in first gear whenever he parks the car. as for me, i love pulling the e-brake on my sedan. i dunno why but when i turn the car on, i always shake the shifter back and forth once or so too. sorry i could go on and on, i have weird drving habbits.
poll for manual drivers: what do you guys do when parking? pull the e-brake or put it in 1st?

why both?
i always thought if you did both, people wouldnt be able to tow your car (like if youre double parked some place illegal).
boilmaker...i see you finalized your choice on rims. ive always looked at those in mags. how much they weigh? nice choice btw.

I heard you only really have to leave it in gear if you park on a slant......like if your parked on a downward slope, leave it in reverse. If you park on an upward slope, leave it in 1st.

I do both. What about on a hill? I heard if you just keep your car in gear instead of pulling the e-brake you put too much pressure on the gears to hold the weight. Don't know the truth to it though. But I'm a first gear + E-Brake type of guy.

only kidding. nah my cars garage kept in the building where i live so, i dont do any street parking regaurdless. but from time to time, i do double park in my apartments drive way (they tow alot of cars in my area), but its only for a few minutesat most.
1. stop in either 1st or 2nd gear
2. pull the e-brake
(now is your chance to rev your engine in an attempt to attract attention)
3. turn off ignition
4. let clutch out
5. unbuckle seatbelt
6. open door
7. exit the vehicle
8. shut door.
9. press the lock button on keychain thingy
10. rinse and repeat

i leave it in neutral and pull the e-brake. some cars (like the saab for sure) dont turn off, like they wont let you take the key out of the ignition, unless the car is in reverse. its a safety thing or something. so maybe your dad used to have a car thats like that and now its just a matter of habbit.
first, e-brake, turn off ignition, let go of CLUTCH FIRST!!!!!!. then let go of brake. I made this mistake several times before figuring it out. Since i leftit in first, i would drift until i letgo of the clutch and i was like, why am i moving. so thats the reason. dont forget to leave a little room if ur on a hill unless u use ur e-brake and then let go once u start

Leaving your car in gear is the worst thing you can do especially on a hill. and if you must then pout it the revers gear. It is your strongest gear.
Why you ask. Say your car is rearended, like mine was recently, while you are parked. Say buh bye to transmission. I leave mine in neutral, E-Brake and turn the wheel uphill or into a curb so the car won't role any where unsafe. UNLike the dumb b THAT LET HERS ROLE INTO MINE.
Just e brake it!

If your car is rearended and it screws up the Tranny so what. It's the other guy's fault and he will have to pay for it. If you don't leave your car in gear and it rolls then you will be in the wrong.
The only thing you said that makes sense is turning the wheel. That is a very good thing to do because if your car does roll then it will go into the curb and not traffic.

What if it is a hit and run????????????
And you turn your wheels into a curb which acts like first gear. This is mainly for parallel parking though.
If you park in a driveway then you don't have to worry about much. And I alway double check my ebrake. ALWAYS. that car isn't going anywhere.
