Trading civic for beetle?
Putting aside the fact that in the US the Beetle is a car for girls and gay people (not the case in Mexico though), would you consider the following:
A friend wants to trade me his 2k1 beetle turbo (all goodies, sunroof, auto, etc.) for my 2k1 civic (all goodies also, sunroof plus momo rims and michelin tires). Based on blue book the beetle is about 500 dls less than my car, it has 28k kilometers, vs my carīs 19k. His reason for trading is the insurance cost for the beetle, which I can get a lower rate because Iīm older and have access to special low rates.
I have driven stick shift turbo beetles and they are a lot of fun. I like the exterior but hate the interior, the car is a lot faster than a civic.
After two years, I still like my civic a lot, except for interior rattles and the ultra soft suspension, its been a great ride, so I donīt know...
My other option is just selling him the car. "when someone wants to buy... you should sell". I told him I want $15k for the car, $1000 more than blue book but my car has a lot more things than the standard EX and is in excellent shape.
Problem comes, if I sell the car what can I get? I have another car but I donīt want it as my daily driver.

It's up to you.. if you buy a beetle make sure you donate your ********* to science to prove you were man but if that's what you want then buy it. it's your money and you have to drive it. I would look into like an rsx or a wrx if you like that kind of thing
Trade him. I have seen a turbo beatle all raced out.....with a dyno sheet of 400 hp. I have also seen them with awesome systems in them. That huge dash is great for 5.1. If you can get past all the people saying its a chicks car then you should be fine.

I have to admit--I like the turbo bug, 5 spd only though. Only thing I can say is, test drive a new Mini Cooper. Even if you're not looking for a car, test drive one cause they are really fun to drive.
Man...don't tarde in a civic for a German car... Hitler drove a Beetle.

First of all, the new beetles are up there with the jeep line in reliability or in other words, about the least reliable cars on the road.
Second, no self-respecting, straingt male would drive a beetle. Well, not in the US anyway. I realize cultures are different and a beetle may not carry the queer connotation is doesn in the US. Although, that still doesn't resolve the reliability issue.
I think you will be horribly disappointed if you trade.

C'mon man, don't get a beetle. If you really must have one of those VW's get a turbo GTI or something......just my opinion.......i don't like seeing guys driving Beetles........just my opinion, if it matters........

Thanks for all the opinions,
Actually it supports my point. My other friends told me I should trade the cars, and donīt even think about it because the beetle can smoke a civic really bad (Mexico Cityīs high altitude gives turbo cars an amazing advantage). But thereīs a lot more to a car than just the engine...
I decided not to trade. He is going to sell his car and then weīll talk afterwards if he wants mine. Iīm still having thoughts about selling it.
The other car I drive is actually a Mini Cooper ( paying1/2 car with my brother). Itīs a lot of fun to drive, the engine feels a lot like the civicīs but these cars still have reliability issues and being a stick shift, makes it really tiring as a daily driving (imagine NY traffic every day).

I don't know why you would trade your Civic for a Beetle. I would never be caught in one of those things. It's way too much of a girls car. Stay with the Civic.

Decisionīs been made. No beetle. I took a look at his car and it hasnīt been well cared for, and I concluded I wouldnīt be able to live with that horrible dashboard. How do beetle owners clean their windshields from the inside?
Couldnīt part with the civic also, I admit I still like my car a lot, and actually decided to do some more mods.
If I ended up selling him my car I would have gotten another used civic (a coupe), meaning starting all over again buying stuff to customize the car.
Please donīt let me think about betraying good ol honda again.
