Rep Power: 0 Finished A6 HID retrofit, with lots of pics.
edit: oops, can someone move this to the members ride, thanks.
after a lot of head scratching , nail biting, and countless trips to the home depot, i finally put the finishing touch on my audi A6 projectors conversion into tyc projectors. but in the end, everything was worth it. beam pattern is 10x better and brighter than my previous H1 HID in the tyc projectors. i got the A6 units and the 4100k D2S bulbs from ebay.
this was before the retrofit - blue looks nice, but is very dim!

i can't put a finger on the total cost cause each project will differ, but you can find oem HID projectors from bmw's and audi's for around $150 pair, and osram or philips D2S bulbs for less than $100 on ebay. i used the ballast from my existing kit.

a lot of hours. i took apart my tyc projectors a couple of weeks ago but only worked on it sparingly as i was waiting for the wire harness in the mail and as much time as schoool and work allow me, but most of the time i was walking down the aisle of the home depot just getting some ideas for what i can use to mount the projectors and cover up the back piece.

if you want to put H1 HID in the tyc, make sure you have a dremel rotary tool because you'll have to enlarge the hole since H1 HID bulbs are bigger than the skinny H1 halogen bulbs.
both are of the same tyc projector, if that's what you're asking. the blue lights in the last pic is what i had before.

Rep Power: 0 Very nice retro. This is just what i needed to motivate me that i'll have to do this to my car ASAP. Looks like you've got an osram ballasts. What kind of harness did you end up buying and how did you connect it to your existing ballast? Im also doing the same retro, but im looking for ece spec units w/ a 3800 lumen output as opposed to dot's 3200. Did you notice the purple color abberation above cutoff? W/ your unit plastidipped can you still aim your beam pattern? Can I also see some head on pics? Thanks in advance.

Rep Power: 0 Those are definitely sweet! Im going to be getting some black TYC projectors for my car and prolly some HID's too. What is the best place to go? would it be liteswap for the HID and tornactive for the projectors?

Rep Power: 0 i got the adapter from www.misterjung.com. my ballasts are indeed osram units (good eye), i simply hardwire the adapter to the ballast using heat shrink tubes. oh, my A6 projectors are ece units too. as for aiming, i aimed the beam before i put the back piece and plastic-dipped it. the A6 unit fits very tightly and there is no room for adjusting screws. i recommend A4 or 3-series projectors.
ebay has tons of hid kits, but make sure you stay away from generic and asian brands.

Rep Power: 0 connecting the ballast to the tyc harness is easy. the wires with the yellow tube you see in my pic from the ballast has a red and black wire. those two wires get juice from the headlight harness, so you just hardwire them to the tyc H1 low beam wires that is blue and black.
as for H1 HID kits in the tyc unit, i dont think it's worth it. the beam pattern is ugly and you'll have spots (rings) in it. well, that was how mine was like. if you must try, get 6000K or lower kits or else it'll be very dim.
silveroutlaw, i'm from san jose. maybe someday when i have time and if i get a lot of requests i might do a diy. but not all the steps are the same since it depends on the donor projector units.
