ACT Clutch & Flywheel
I got my ACT Clutch & Flywheel installed today. I didn't do it myself so dont ask for a DIY
There was some person who said in another thread that they talked to ACT and ACT said they didn't have clutches or flywheels for our car. From ACT's website it says the clutch is the same for '92 to '01 civics and the flywheel is the same from '90 to '01 civics. I just wanted to let everyone know that information is right.
I got part #: HC5-HDSS for the clutch kit. That includes the heavy duty pressure plate and performance organic street disc. And I got part #: 600120 for the flywheel. This is the StreetLite flywheel which weighs 11.9 lbs. I didn't want to get the ProLite which weighs around 9 lbs if I can remember right.
The clutch was definitely different. Took a while to get used to. It doesn't require the same amount of pressure as the stock clutch and everything was very smooth. I didn't want to pop the clutch because it says you need to break the clutch in for 200-300 miles. But I could tell from even normal starts and stops that there was a huge difference.
I could also feel the difference in flywheels immediately. Everything was quicker. Acceleration was better. The clutch and flywheel were a great combination. I'm really glad I decided to do this.

Nice! I'll get almost exactly what you got eventually. Although I'll buy the HC5-XXSS. Instead of the "HD - ACT Heavy Duty Pressure Plate" I'll get the "XT - ACT Xtreme Pressure Plate". Now, when you say, "It doesn't require the same amount of pressure as the stock clutch and everything was very smooth." do you mean that the clutch pedal is actually lighter than stock? If so, then I won't have any qualms about getting the XT pressure plate since I want a slightly firmer feel.

When I was saying it doesn't require the same amount of pressure, I was just saying that it is just very responsive. With the stock clutch, I'd have to press it down a little farther or whatever to engage it, but I just tap this thing and it engages. That is what I was trying to say.

Is it harder to press the pedal down, or the same or easier? So does that mean it's points of engagement/disengagement are a smaller range and come sooner in the stroke of the pedal?
Also, how much was the install?

It's not harder to press the pedal down. Like I said before it is just a lot firmer and takes some getting used to. Our stock clutches are so loose compared to this one. And yes I was saying that the points of engagement are smaller. I wasn't even trying to pop the clutch yesterday, and the starts are amazing. It really pulls you off the line. I dont race or anything, but if you were racing this clutch would give you a much better jump.

And I forgot to mention that it revs a lot quicker with the flywheel. I just love this combination. If you are really serious about adding some performance to your civic, I would recommend both of these parts.

Oh yeah I forgot to answer your other question. It was about 250 for the install. It took about 6 hours. The guys didn't expect it to take so long, but they had never installed a clutch on a 7thgen. But after starting, they realized it was harder to get through the subframe on a 7thgen than previous generations from what they said. And these are guys who do this all the time. I got this stuff put on at a performance shop. These weren't just the normal mechanic. So that might just give you an estimate on how much time it would take.
Oh I like. Good job. And good choice in flywheel. Sounds like something I definitely would like.
You have quicker acceleration from a stop obviously. How does the car pick up say at freeway speeds from say 60-80?
EDIT: OH, and if you don't mind... how about adding a review in the Reviews section? Just a suggestion. You'd pretty much just could copy and paste what you have here into a new thread with the added details in your replies.
By the way, what's ACT's site?

60 to 80 is awesome! I had a 2 hour drive back from Columbus where I got it installed yesterday and that was another great thing I noticed. I just cant say enough about how much of a difference the clutch and flywheel make. And yeah I'll post a review.

I've actually had the clutch and the flywheel for a little while now. I just didn't get around to getting them on until now. Yeah I noticed that it was on backorder from OptAuto now.
I have the ACT prolite and Exedy street clutch sitting on my room floor. I went on vacation right after I got and now have the time to install it. I just need to find a shop. I paid $265 for the flywheel and $115 for the clutch, all including shipping. The Exedy clutch had 66% more clamping power than stock. I did not know that Exedy/Daikin are affiliated. I love ebay.
