i guarantee its the gas you're getting. in the northeast with cold winters ALL gas stations have additives in the fuel that burns faster -- it helps the cars warm up faster. as for getting 48mpg in the first place ? sorry to say but you must drive like an old lady. even when i babied mine i was only getting 34-35mpg. now i'm getting just under 30

But maybe u're car was a freak of nature and if you really were, then blame it on bad winter gas.

with just my AEM CAI in the summer I would usually always get 41-42mpg.. when I put on my 17" rims that number dropped to about 38-40mpg..
during my commute the typical posted speed limit is 45mph, so i just skip gears and go right for 5th. you could call it driving like a granny but who cares when your commuting in a steady line of traffic every morning.
I just try to get to 5th gear as soon as i can.

believe me man, i'm not flaming you, but i think you should check your math, there's absolutely NO way you can get that gas mileage, I've had my car for 2 years 3 months, and i've done everything i can to get higher mileage, it was never mid forties, never mind 46.........and my motor is bone stock
By the way, PESTLNC, sorry to hear about your dip in gas mileage. My gas mileage dips a lot in the winter. In the summer I average 34-36 and in the winter I average 30-32 (mostly all city driving).

Whoops, figured most knew I drive a 5-speed HX. It's bone stock except for removal of the intake resonator. The extra hot air gave me around 1 more mpg. I usually get 34-38mpg around town, and 44-46mpg pure highway. Yes, I drive like an old lady now. Cops love to target me for some reason. I love how shortly after I get this car a cop pulls me over and says, "I clocked you doing 67mph back there." That was in a 65. Anyway, I've only hit 48mpg a couple times. All highway trips from Bergen County, NJ to Cape May and back.
edit: Yeah, these are summer-time numbers. It's got to be the single digit weather and winter gas doing this to me. I'm really surprised by such a drop. My previous car dropped a couple mpg in the winter, but not nearly this much.

It's been so cold in New England this winter. I think I may get less than 30 mpg (which would be the first time) on my next fill up.

My gas mileage has gone up. I got 36 mpg 2 weeks ago and that's my best yet. I got over 34 mpg last week and usually get 33.5 or so...
Most of the time I drive like a grandma, well at least getting up to speed anyway.

i just filled up today, got a whopping 26.5mpg, but i guess i can't complain since its cold, and i do have an EX auto, hopefully i'll be hitting well above 30mpg next summer. my engine is still fairly new, only 7340 miles on it. i'm hoping it goes up after another couple oil changes.
Hehe, gotta love living in SD. Its pretty much the same temp year round, maybe only only +/- 15 degrees year round during the day. Ive never been able to get more then 35mpg on the highway, and 26-27 city, i dont know these 48mpg claims are coming from. I wanted to see how far I could go on one tank, so i never took the rpms above 3k for one tank and got 35mpg. I have a LX manual, and I just cant believe these super high MPG claims. I think somebody needs to check thier math.

Actually, I do...sorta. If you put your car in neutral going downhill, the engine will use gas to idle. However, if you leave it in say 5th gear, the wheels will rotate the engine above the idle speed. Take your foot off the gas and the injectors turn off.
