More HP from an LX?
Hi I'm new to this so I'm going to need some help...I just bought a used 2001 2d lx and now I'm wishing I would have got the ex model because it just doesn't have enough get up and go for me. Is there anything I could have installed possibly that would give it some more hp?
Just search this web site. There are plenty of threads already started about this. Anyways there wouldn't have been that much of a difference if you had gotten an EX. Start off with the basic intake/header/exhaust upgrades, but that will only give you 10hp at the most. Then get nitrous if you just want to go fast every once in a while. If you want a fast car you should have at the very least gotten a previous generation civic so you could already upgrade it more. I happen to love my Civic for its efficiency and reliability and I wouldn't trade it for much else.

if you woulda gotten the ex you woulda even been more dissapointed, if you read automible magazine they tested all models and the lx is faster than the ex in 0-60 time and in 1/4 mile time

Different drivers, different cars..different clutches.....
If I hop in a vette for the first time and run it down the track..I"m not gonna get as good a number as someone who's been dragging the same car for years...
Also..the DX/LX's have a much smoother power band and more torque available lower down then the ex's...the EX's before vtec have less power than a DX/LX for better fuel economy which is what our cars designed for... as for 1/4 mile times.. DX's and EX's run almost identical times due to the weight differences..LX's are the slowest of the lot..(by at most 2 10'ths of a second..)... if you want the most power for your buck..get an Injen CAI. and some port work...It'll be cheaper than headers and exhaust..and have the same gains...then you can headers(kamikazi or HP only..both are for off road use only) and exhaust later

ok buy inktake, headers, exhaust, fabricate a high flow intkae manifold, port and polish your heads and get a 4 angle havle job. then add a 50 shot of N2O. you be running with approx. 170 WHP -give or take. our cars have have 101 WHP to begin with so its a solid improvment but costly. a pulley and cam will also help you out. the thing kills our cars is that it doesn't breath well because of the ULEV restrictions (especially in the intake manifold). if you buy the apexi SAFC and run your car lean then you will get better response from your bolt on mods. theres not much difference in hte Dx,LX, and ex speed wise. the VTEC-e in the EX is worthless.

Thanx for all the useful info guys!
I know if I wanted a "fast" car I should have bought something else...I love my car for sure, but there are those moments when some jerk next to me needs to have a little more respect! Ok so now obviously I'm not a mechanic, can I go to just any car shop and have a few little mods done or do I need to find a performance car shop? ---I should probably search the threads for this answer shouldn't I? Well too bad I have to work to pay for thid car I love so much LOL!

whats up. nice to see another washington person here. i have a lx, and first thing id recommend is a k&n fipk, you'll get about 4hp increase from that. new set of grounding wires from sun auto will net around 2 hp (not exactly sure on this one varies from 2 to 10 hp on certain cars). nitrous will help too lol. getting a new header, downpipe, hi flow or no cat, 2 1/4" piping and a straight thru muffler will give a little.
im single lol
only about 200 miles from you though

Hello DisturbedGurl21;
Whats up! Some people can be so rude. Here are some suggestions. that you can use to soup up your car.
Here are my thoughts on souping up your civic if you have the cash.
1. Get the Jet chip mod which will boost your fuel to air ratio along with other things which equals more horses.
http://www.jetchip.com/
2. For about $480 you can then get IGNITION SOLUTION's plasma ignition coils for the civic which will increase your spark for the boosted fuel ratio this will increase combustion and will burn the fuel more than stock coils and produce more horse power.
http://www.ignitionsolutions.com/technology/installations/honda_civic_2001/
3. Then if you are going to get an exhaust systemm that is all a mtter of preference. loud or or not so loud. For not so loud just get the DC header and the DC exhaust. Or for loud get any type of other system. But buy one that has a silencer just incase you doun't like it that loud.
http://www.dcsports.com/index1.html
4. Intake. Well. Maany people think that the cold air intake is the way to go; however, this is wrong. You have to lower the air temp 1 degree to one horse power and the intake doesn't make that much of a difference. But it looke cool. Be wared that if you get an intake get a good one with a good rep. If I were you get a AEM short or cold air intake. If you get the cold air intake BUY an air bypass valve. go to AEM's web site to learn more. http://www.aempower.com
5. For the Pulley I have heard great things about AEM Pulley kits. They are light and have good power gains. check them out http://www.aempower.com
Well; those are my thoughts on the soup up for the civic.

P.s. This is for all of rude commenting people remember when you didn't know sh@# and all the probibly stupid questions you had. Or how about the first time you used this site. Get a clue don't be an ***.

Hey Punking, I like the jetchip idea but the website says only 8-10 hp gain. hmmmm.....then again I have no idea how much difference that makes but I do know that the 115hp isn't enough for me Also I'm on my break and don't have time to check but isn't NO2 illegal for street use? It doesn't matter, I don't feel comfortable putting that in my car anyway
I do want to eventually put an exhaust system on my car though mostly because I like they way they look...yea I'm shallow.
As for the flamers.....they can kiss my LOL

what up.
Yah Nos is illegal. And Now a days nos might be safer but if you don't know what you are doing you can screw up the engine. Plus if you use it all the time it shortins the life span of the motor. I'm just waiting for the Jackson super charger for the 7thgen civic. all power all the time no spool up turbo lag.
well, chat with you later Gurl. Happy hunting in the persuit for more power.

If I had an lx, replacing the header, downpipe, and exhaust would be the first thing I'd do. The ex is getting at least half of it's increase in hp from the exhaust line. Most all hondas are like that. Look at the lx's exhaust line and then look at the ex. I have been trying to tell people this forever but nobody pays any attention...*sniffles*

I would start with a K&N intake. It's called the K&N FIPK. It will get you about + 4hp. It's a bit more than the other short ram intakes, but it's got a heat shield to prevent hot air from going in. Either get that, or get an Inject Cold Air Intake. These two are the best. You might not want to get an exhaust, cuz they don't do much for our cars other than change the sound (no real gains), and they're expensive (especially considering the no gains).
You can get a good header by HP but it will make your car not street legal. But you'll get + 10-14hp.
The AEM pulley kit is supposed to be good. I think I might get one of those in the future.
Good luck.

Not bloody likely. Try 5-8. EDIT: and thats with an intake and exhaust.
