My Turbo Kit

I have received about 30 emails this past weekend about my turbo setup, and I'm going to post the responses here, since it's just easier and everyone asked the same basic questions.

I don't want to disclose how much I spent on my turbo kit, as there were other things involved at the time, but the cost for someone else to get one would be $6,600, installed and tuned on the dyno. This would be my setup without the clutch, boost controller, remote switching system, painted piping, and other small things like that.

I dynoed my car before taking it to Jotech, and with an AEM CAI, the DC Sports TCS exhaust, and the Plasma Direct ignition, it pulled 101.2 horsepower and 95 torque to the wheels. With the turbo at 4psi it produces 154.1 horsepower and 148.9 torque; and at 8psi it produces 197.8 horsepower and 166.2 torque. Air fuel ratio was as good as it gets, and everything runs smoothly on both boost settings. I would not recommend to anyone to go above 8psi until they upgrade the fuel pump and lines, as this is where the stock fuel pump started to hit its limits. Not really sure how much more boost the motor can handle anyways, but anything up to 8psi should be safe.

The turbo was done by Tony at Jotech Motorsports in Garland, TX. You can reach him at (972) 278-9744, or go by their shop. A copy of my dyno graph is up on the wall, and he can show you the estimate he's prepared for making this kit for someone else if you're interested.

If anyone has any more questions, I will be happy to answer, but please make sure it's not something I've already said. Also, it may take me a few days to reply to an email or PM, I am still in classes at university, and have a very busy schedule, but I will reply as soon as I can.

Wow...thats amazingly higher than expected. Congrats on the beautiful turbo. Next thing you should do is take it to the track and see what kind of numbers you can pull there. I can't wait to see. BTW, 197 to the wheels is a nice number.

And if you could fit it in with ur busy schedule, get some 1/4 times every one wants to know what there in for with turbo. Thanks

Alright so basically, you got pretty good power out of that turbo, congratss! It does give us 101whp civic owners some hope for true power, but $6600 is a pretty big number to me, i mean think about how much money that is, think about how much cheaper it is to turbo an older generation civic. but at least you got it done, and not many others do! looks sweet, let us know about internals too thanks
congrats once again...

as for 1/4 times, the rsx-s with 200hp at THE CRANK runs high 14's to low 15's with a decent driver

given that riceburner's 197hp is at the wheels and is what, 200lbs heavier than an ex, you're running mid's 14's and maybe even low 14's on street tires

plus the turbo kit seems worth it. civic ex roughly costs 16,500 and the rsx costs, i think $23,000. turbo kit plus civic ex equals around the same price as rsx-s plus your getting more power.

will have pics up soon. $6,600 Is a little high for just the turbo setup!

I have my whole motor almost complete. I am getting it done by brevard cylinder head here in merritt island florida.

HEAD:
Port and polish (exhaust ports bored 1/2 inch then beveled & intke 1/2 inch and beveled) = $300
4 angle valve job = 200
light weight and 2 mm bigger valves = $350
Custom intake manifold = $350
Custom throttle body (70 mm) = $400

BOTTOM END:
Bore and sleeve the cylinder walls = $750
Stud the head instead of bolts = $100
JE lower compresion racing pistons = $550
Shot peened rods = $120

TURBO:
manifold / custom= $450
turbo (T3) Garret= $700
Intercooler 29x6x3= $450
Downpipe custom = $75
Piping (custom fit) = $190
Wastegate (delta gate) = $200
B.O.V. (greddy) = $200
Bigger injectors 320 cc = $380
Upgraded fuel system (return line set up) = $1400 (what I spent)

OTHER:
crank pully = $200
Custom exhaust = $450

This makes our motor good for 30 pounds of boost. The turbo only puts out 22 psi. The only thing holding us up is rods. They don't make rods yet so we have to get them shot peened. Shot peened rods are only good for about 12 pounds of boost. After the SEMA show we might have custom rods made.

Contact me for the hook up on parts: (321)-403-7833 Phil

EDIT: I can get someone the whole kit running 7-9 pounds of boost on stock internals and stock manifold for about $3,500 to $4,000.

thats crazy how expensive it is to turbo 7th gen's...ugh. I've been saving up now to turbo my lil 6th gen and its only going to cost me around 1,200 for my turbo kit...then another 1,300 for internals.

but i guess in 3-4 years all the parts will be just as cheap for 7th gen's...just gotta wait

NumberoneHonda- what are you going to use to control this setup? I know the stock ECM won't be able to handle the fuel system, much less the other upgrades.

Actually, not to say that you're wrong, but crower can make rods for the 7thgen already, at 177$/rod for steel billet, and 470$/rod for lightweight titanium:

Hey simkin,

All the time and problems and trouble I never thought to look to them. Thanks man. I will be getting in touch with them ASAP.

RiceBurnRex,

As for the computer, it is a custom reprograming from the people here in Orlando Florida. I will give more details as it progresses. They are trying to reach a good stoich and a little reprograming. I realy hope they work it out.

you also get better brakes, suspension, leather seats, a bose audio system and a 6-speed. doesn't seem so worth it now, huh?

Not to be a bjtch, but im curious about gas mileage, when your turbo kicks in(what you usually have it programed at), im also curious about longer trips say the highway at about 70 to 80 mph, cause i have to drive across Kansas to get home to Colorado. Can you use cruise control with out the turbo kicking in and making for an uncomfortable ride. Do you have problems keeping the wheels to the ground with WOT, or do you have a mid size turbine so it doesn't spool up to quickly allowing for good traction. Sorry i have so many questions, these just seem like the main things i've been concerned about, being that my car will be a daily driver.

The turbo won't spool on the highway unless you're accelerating hard. It didn't come on once the entire way from Dallas to OKC on cruise control. And as long as the turbo's not spooling, the fuel mileage is the exact same.

I lose traction if I'm on high boost and really accelerating.
