The EG "eBay Special"
So, my brother and I decided we wanted a project, but we didn't want to spend a ton of money, so we picked up a '92 CX hatch for $300 and got to work on the eBay special, also known as "Because Race Car"
Don't have any pics of the car except one, but it will give you a good idea of what we are dealing with:

The line was clamped off because there was no line coming from it to the brake cylinder!
Anyway, here's a list of what has to be ordered/done in order to get it to where we are satisified. Before you start hatin' on eBay parts, know that we are aware of the risks involved in purchasing said parts, and are too dumb to care :P
Engine (a running d15b7)
- Rebuild kit
- turbo manifold
- t3 turbo (owned)
- Downpipe
- exhaust (ordering an ebay cat back and modifying for the downpipe and high flow cat)
- oil lines
- stuff for chipping the ecu
- injectors (here's where I get lost...going to run up to 14psi boost; dunno what I need)
- block and head cleanup
- timing belt and water pump and seals
- Intercooler and piping
Suspension:
- Picked up some used tokico whites with H&R lowering springs
- Replace front lca bushings
- Hopefully going to find a good deal on used rear LCA's
- Came with winters on steelies, going to find a low cost summer replacement
- ordered upper camber arms with ball joints
- rear brakes need to be set up with new lines, cylinders, drums, and shoes
- front brakes need to be cleaned up with new lines to match the rear (otherwise in good shape actually)
Body:
- Got a fiberglass front bumper of sorts, but will probably just repaint the stock bumper and keep that.
- Rear quarters need to be cut out and replaced
- upper rad support is bent and needs to be straightened out
- rockers need to be replaced
- underside and floor pan is rust free!
- got a new hood and front diver side fender to replace the dented ones
- got a new hatch to replace the rusted out one
- need new struts for the hatch glass
- installed rear wiper delete
- doors are a bit rusty and need a repaint
- going to platidip the whole car flat black when finished
Interior:
- gutted everything that is not required for heating or safety certification
- need to replace front seats or cove them up with a seat cover as they are just plain disgusting lol
- going to install some ricer gauges somewhere in or on the dash (boost, fuel pressure, oil pressure, tach, and whatever else I come up with.)
There's probably more stuff I'm missing, but I'll add it as I come to it. The engine is ready to come out, just need to unhook the shift linkage and alternator and get the hoist which a neighbor is getting to me tomorrow hopfully. I'll start taking pics hopefully today if it's not raining.

Re: The EG "eBay Special"
Went on a rampage when I got home from work today and the entire front suspension is gone and so is the engine. Got the tranny separated from the block, but I seem to not have a 10mm 12 point socket to get the clutch off...so off to the parts store tomorrow to get that **** underway...I promise there will be pics tomorrow night!

Re: The EG "eBay Special"
Ah I forgot to take pics again lol...I'll have some soon I swear! And well we are hoping to have the car on the road, pushing 230whp for less than 2k on top of the price of the car, which was $300.
Here's some of the costs I know of so far:
(all in Canadian $)
- Shocks and springs: $140
- New hatch, hood, fender, rear wiper delete, short shifter, left tail light, battery tie down, oil cap - $260
- Front upper camber arms and ball joints: $75
- Turbo: Free-ish (was purchased two years ago for $200...never used)
- Front left shock mount bushing kit: $16
Those are the parts I've bought so far...I'll update the list as I go...and move it to the main post too I suppose.

Where in Ontario are you located?
If you're near London, I will have to lay eyes on this thing when it's done.
Also, you did good on the hood, fenders and tail light - was this just at a wrecker?

Re: The EG "eBay Special"
I'm a bit of a drive from London...all the way up in Barrie...and I bought all the parts form a guy in Burlington who was parting one out.
I kinda wanted a CRX too but the EG was right here and dirt cheap so I decided just to grab it and go lol

Re: The EG "eBay Special"
actually after checking craigslist eg's are considerably cheaper than a crx. theres like 5 crx's in my city on there. 3 of which need an engine and the other 2 they are asking like 3k and they are in need of an engine rebuild soon lol.

Re: The EG "eBay Special"
Okay, so some pics finally, to show you the hell I've chosen to endure lol...
Here's the car as it sits now...the engine is out, as well as the front suspension, and the interior of the car is torn out and shoved in the back for now:

After pulling the drums off the rear, I found the shoes worn to bare metal...but I may have found a rear disc setup for dirt cheap, so that's already solved:

And the passenger rear quarter which is going to be replaced, along with the rockers and driver side rear quarter:

Passenger side rocker panel:

And the hood that came with it

Diver side quarter and rocker:
[img]http:/muskokacarclub.com/gallery/image.php?album_id=8&image_id=77[/img]
And the original hatch...note the license plate lights hanging out on account of there being too much rust to mount them. Also in the pic is the rear wiper delete.

Cracked tail light which I have a replacement for:

Pic of the driver's side:

And the power maker:

Here's the replacement hatch and battery tie down:

And the engine as it came out of the car:

Yea, I know my garage is a disaster...I'm a cluttered worker lol
Stock tranny, no grinds:

The replacement Tokico shocks and H&R lowering springs:

Here's what's left of the exhaust that was on it...pathetic:

And the replacement hood, fender and the stock bumper and fiberglass bumper I have to work with:

And that's it so far...some parts are on the way, and I'll have some more updates as they come.

Re: The EG "eBay Special"
This thread has caught my interest. I've been looking to restore a 92-95 Civic HB for the past few weeks now. I think it's my all time favorite model of Civic.
There's one for sale near me right now same colour, same condition as the one your building. I saw the owner drive it down the street a couple days ago just billowing white smoke behind it. They want $1800 for it so....
I haven't got up the nerve to offer him $300 for it yet but if it's still there in a couple weeks .... maybe.

Re: The EG "eBay Special"
Made a bit more progress this week... sorry for the horrible quality of the pictures...I didn't shrink them properly and made the mistake of saving the smaller pics over the original so the colours are messed up.
Anyway...

Here's the D15B7U. The "U" stands for "upside-down"

Got the head off...and you can see that there is some inconsistency within the cylinders...

And the old pistons here.

Pulling the old oil pump off.

And here's my brother removing the crank.
So there's a couple more things to remove from the block, and then we can start cleaning it up and honing the cylinders and so on...I'll update as things progress!

Re: The EG "eBay Special"
We're just going to clean everything up, and then rebuild the D15 with a master rebuild kit (all gaskets, timing belt, water pump, oil pump, rod and main bearings, pistons, and rings) and clean everything up and paint the block, rebuild the head and clean it up. Once the cleaning is done and the seals replaced, we are upgrading to a cometic head gasket and ARP head studs so that it can handle the boost a bit better, as head lift and blown hg's are the most spoken of problems with a stock block.
Also, I received my "stage 3" ceramic clutch kit from ebay ($150) but forgot to take a pic. It's supposed to be good up to 310hp, but we shall see...
And another thing I just remembered...I didn't do any research on it, so I wasn't sure until now, but my D16Y8 intake manifold, which will eventually be used on my *proper* engine build for my EM2, fits the D15 with little modification, which means my AEM fuel rail will fit without issue too, and seeing as how they weren't purchased for this build, I consider them "free" upgrades lol. Either way, I'm pretty excited to be able to use these, as they will help me get more power with less boost, thus increasing the life of the engine a bit...hopfully.
