D15 to H22????!!!!!

I have a 92 civic 4dr and am looking at an engine swap begining of next year. I found a full H22 conversion for about $2700 at http://www.jspecauto.com. Anyone think this is a bad idea and i should just stick with a simple b16 or b18??? Thoughts Please!!!

Re: D15 to H22????!!!!!

Id go B16 (99-00 SI motors) Ive been around hondas all my life and seen every honda motor at its full potential. B16 does not compare to any of them. A B16 with a CAI, full exhaust, ported head, and mild cams......will RAPE any honda on the road. A B16 puts up a good fight stock. PLUS...very easy swap!

Re: D15 to H22????!!!!!

You can get a k series swap for that much and it would turn out to be alot better than the h series.

First off I will start with the k series motors. There is alot of them and they all are very powerful motors and I mean all of them. Yes the k20a3 is even powerful. Some say its not but I have seen it be just as worthy as the k20a2 and so forth. Though the best to swap on is either the k20a2, k24a2, or k24a1. The k20a2 is the civic type r motor/ acura rsx type s motor. The k24a2 is the acura tsx motor and the k24a1 is the honda crv motor. The k20a2 and k24a2 are the most expensive so I would say go with the k24a1. Then go with the vtec killer setup. It has been the best bet with the power. Just by swapping the cams, rockers and valvetrain has raised the hp by almost 50. I have seen guys make 221 whp and 183 trq off of a stock oem motor just with bolt ons and a tune. So far out of all the honda motors the k24 has responded better than any other motor to bolt ons. But if you want a little bit cheaper swap by about 1k then there is the b series.

The b series motors there are a couple of them that are very powerful. Of course the b16a2 which was in the 99-00 si is a very powerful motor for its size and can dish out alot but an even better is the b18c1 which comes out of the acura integra gsr. It is probably your best bet for the b series. I have a couple of buddies that have the gsr in there older civics and they are pretty quick. You do the right things to them and they will talk right back to you.

What ever motor is your choice, they are all good motors. You just need to do some research first before you do anything.

Re: D15 to H22????!!!!!

I'm doing a k20a swap in my 02 in the fall.

The motor you choose depends on your ultimate goals for the car, which you haven't told us. If you are just looking to make more power, I would do a B swap and build that motor. I'm willing to pay for a K motor cause I want something no one else has.

Re: D15 to H22????!!!!!

Well the k20a is the most expensive and most powerful k motor there is out there. Its the motor that goes in the honda integra type r. Though for him I suggest not to cause its to expensive for the motor and that he can easy make the power that it has. The cheapest k series motor is either the k24a1 or k24a4. They each go for like 400 to 600 this is not included the tranni but you can find the rsx-s 6 speed for like 300 to 400 i guess. But then all the parts to swap the k in the car is bout 1000 not including kpro which is 900 which will be about same price as the h22 that he was talking bout. He could find k20a2 head parts for bout 300 and put them in the k24a1 head and walla vtec killer. Add some bolt ons and it will be the same whp as the k20a with bolt ons but more trq than the k20a and alot cheaper. The k20a is what like 5000.

Re: D15 to H22????!!!!!

wouldn't it be cheaper if he just turbo'd his D? if he just wants the swap for power, i think turbo is the better way to go. just a thought.

i too want to have more power but i dont have the funds for it. im planning to turbo my D to around 250 for daily drive and call it a day. if my engine pops then i can just buy another one for 500 or less. plus i get that BOV sound too.

It would be cheaper but it wouldnt be as dependable as a stock motor. I mean think he can do the swap and do what I said and have a stock motor pushing bout 20 whp under your turbo build. Think bout it what would happen if he turboed the k. It would completely surpass that d. With the same amount of boost that you would be pushing, I would say bout 15 to get to 250 with your d. The k could be up to like 380 or more.

Re: D15 to H22????!!!!!

Alright sorry i havent got on in a lil while been kinda busy. So ur talkin about the K like the swap is a walk in the park i dont even know where to get the tweaked motor mounts for my car and/or if the K is going to fit with enough room to do anything. The main goal is to push horsepower to the next level and make a 4dr civic that is a Z killer!! I want to eventually get a feature and i dont know many people who are using the h22 in the civic. On top of that u talk like its easy to just get the rsx tranny too. If u guys got websites or places i can order from to support ur prices and parts give em up. I need all the information to start this project as early as march/april next year. i am takin pics of all the steps and trials along the way. I mean is there anyone here who can say the see civics with H series all the time and once again need more info for the K. Dont see to much around for the K like I do the H. And the H also puts out 200hp standard!!! Give me more what yall got????

Re: D15 to H22????!!!!!

well you are acting like the H is an easy swap and it definately is not lol. you are gonna need custom engine and trans mounts unless a company came out with some already, and there will be a few clearance issues getting it in. its possible but not a walk in the park by any means. and your price on the motor seems a bit high. check out some of the reliable motor sellers on ebay, you can get a full h22 setup with trans and low mileage for around $2,200 or less
