Rep Power: 0 Thanks for all the comments guys. The car is pretty dangerous in the snow. Boost turns on at 3k, and it snaps the rear loose on most roads. Today was a good time to test the limits, so I fooled with DCCD for a while. I kept it in AUTO for most of the day, but I learned that LOCK mode is the best for gaining traction in these conditions. I didn't try the 5 other settings, only the OPEN differential mode. Holy ****. The rear breaks loose much faster than my s2k. I did some doughnuts and I wasn't bouncing off the rev limiter like in the Honda, the Roo just stayed at 4k.
All in all, I am very satisfied. The car payments are in the $5xx, but it is what it is. A new one was just too much money to put down, and would have been an even higher payment. I'm glad that I got my favorite body style though

Rep Power: 0 I know dude, for 7 years. Thats what you get for not finishing your leases on a 7th gen and s2k. They called it negative equity. Apparently, I had $7,000 dollars worth of it. The s2ks payments were in the $5xxs, but not as high.
One reason why the payments are so high is because I have GAP insurance. If the car gets stolen/totaled, they refund up to 150% according to the blue book value.

Rep Power: 304 I like the car and yes quality comes at a price. As to the GAP I too have it but it only cost me $350.00 total for the entire term of my loan. I pay 320.00 for my 02 EX sedan. So 150.00 more for an 04 STI it aint too bad. I would do it.

Rep Power: 0 I used to live in El Paso, but I go to school in Denver. It snows in El Paso maybe once every five years.

Honestly, I shopped all around Colorado, and this was one of the best deals. First off, you couldn't lease the 06s, only finance. They wanted $3k down on a 07 to get the payments in the $700s. They also wanted $3k down to get payments on a new 06 in the high $600s. I found a used 06 but it was modded and had 19k on it. I figured if I put 17k on my s2k than this person abused it more than I did my Honda. I found a 05 with 24k on it for a similar price, but it was also modded. All other STis either had custom exterior parts, or were modded.
In the end, this deal just made the most sense. I had always wanted this bodystyle, and I figure it had a pretty responsible owner to only put 32k on it when the STi was first brought here in the middle of 03. I got them to throw some snow tires for free, GAP insurance, and I will break even from the negative equity in two years. Payments for the s2k were also in the $5xxs, but this one is well worth it. Its has more power, takes turns faster, comfortable, and is ten times more fun.
I plan to keep the car for a very long time. Possibly forever. I'll wait and see how people are liking the 08s. But those are probably going to look even worse than the 06+

Rep Power: 0 M3 is a nice car, but the complete opposite from the STi. You can't compare the two.
Between STi and EVO, it comes down to prefrence. Just like the s2k and Z. EVO uses technology to take turns a tad bit faster, and the STi uses force. STi feels more like a FR. EVOs make more power mod for mod, but the tranny is complete sh*t, and the ride is harsher. EVO is like the s2k in a way because power doesn't come till late in the powerband. Fuel cut is at 7600rpm. STi has the extra .5 liter of displacement, solid tranny, DCCD, intercooler spray, and boxer rumble. Its always best to have more displacment when modding, kinda like insurance.
It also comes down to a prefrence in looks. I hate the way EVO looks. I'm not hating. I respect it performance wise, but just don't like the way it looks. The headlights and fenders seem to be too close to the front wheels, and the interior is plain. STi has a longer hood, nicer headlights, nice interior, and nicer rear spoiler IMO.
I have driven a 03 EVO BTW. The seats are more comfortable, and it uses finnese to execute handling rather than force. The turbo doesn't get rocking till around 4k. Boost in the Subaru comes on at 2800rpm, the car definently has more grunt.
What won me over is DCCD. EVO can only powerslide at best. With DCCD, you can manipulate front/rear torque split by up to 6 settings. Up to 95% rear, and 50/50% in LOCK. AUTO mode is at 65/35. When it comes down to it, EVO is like a FWD with AWD put on it, and STi is like a RWD with AWD. I don't know about you guys, but I find sliding the rear and doughnuts to be one of the most satisfying things to do in a car.
