SSM hardest to match?
Hey,
some idiot driver totally crimpled my rear bumper when my car was parked on the street and left without leaving a note.
Long story short, i need to replace the rear bumper and have it repainted and all.
Here's where it gets weird. The guy at the auto body shop said they would have the "blend in" the new paint on the bumper into the rear quarter panels because SSM is the hardest paint to match.
I kind of thought he was BS'ing. I thought SSM was the easiest color to match and stuff like white or bright colors like inca pearl or blue would be harder to match perfectly.
Tell me what you think.
btw, the estimate to replace the bumper and paint everything was $800.

its true. when i had to replace my trunk, painting and plending the ssm the total came to around 1300 for the whole job. instead i got a cf hood and trunk for practically the same price. i would say that its not just ssm but almost all metallics are hard to match

wtf. i've never heard that... when i got my type-r grill painted, it's color was perfect and i didnt have to have it blended in. i still have it (2 years later) and there is no difference between the grill and the body color.
Silver is the hardest to match but you only blend metal to metal...like hood and fenders. You don't blend bumbers since the are rubber. This is the rule that ALL body shops go buy...if they say other it's bs.
I had my front bumber replaced and painted when I wrecked it...only painted bumber..1200 for new bumber, paint, headlight and adjusting the core support since I bent it.
I also just had my hood painted....that did get blended with the fenders so the hood was painted, both fenders blended and recleared and repin striped. This was only $300 cause it was done by a friend from a body shop.

i was in a huge accident and from some angles you can tell the paint is different. its really hard to match even with blending. i had a grill painted too and in some light it matches perfect, in others it looks way off.
I just burnt my tongue

well just to tell u guys ssm isnt the hardest color to match...its kameleon and colors of that sort...because it changes color in a different way if u do...anyways onto the ssm cuz if u paint a bumper you have such a large area it needs to be clear coat blended...its not like a grill which is harder to tell...it costs more than u think too
yo.....dude i c that u live in philly...i'm rite outside....n there is a place that will do it for cheaper n the guy is good as hell at paintiing....the place is called "Body shop by Ron"...pm me n i'll give u the number.....this guy is amazing
