I am going to put my civic up for sale this week but am trying to decide on an asking price. I have put a good 4,500 in my car but would only expect to get little back for my mods. I just hit 18,000 miles, so my car is still fairly new and blue book is around 15,300 stock. I was thinking in the area of 17 but not sure if it would sell.

Anyone have any suggestions on a good way to determine how to add my mods into the price. I usually figure since is used cut a good 50% of the price on the mods.

I really don't feel like spending months to try to sell the thing so its hard to determine whats fair on price without cutting myself short.

A modded car will take a really long time to sell because it only appeals to a small niche in the market whereas a unmodded car will appeal to the average consumer.

It'll take you a while for you to sell your car with the mods...hopefully some 16 year old who is still in the Fast N Furious stage will want to buy your car for whatever price you ask. Not saying your car is rice but rather its hard to find a buyer for a modded car.

I suggest puting back to stock and selling off the mods for a quicker and better chance of sale.

EDIT: You can raise the price a little bit for the leather interior.

I would put the stock parts back on if I still had them. I would have to purchase all new struts from honda because mine were cut anyway. I am not putting another dollar into that car unless its in the gas tank or an oil change.

The only thing that would really keep buyers away may be the tint which can be changed, the wheels that can not be changed but someone would have a new set of PZeros to tool around on, and the Koni suspension which can also not be changed.

If I have to trade it in then I guess I'll just have to loose a little bit of money.

There are members on here who would probably be willing to trade their stock parts + cash for your stuff.
Try that out and if it doesn't work then I guess you can just put it up for sale as is.
Try to trade locally so it cuts down on cost and time.

You car really isn't all that modded, just wheels, other than that your car looks pretty much stock, so selling it shouldn't be hard, you don't have lip kit or anything extreme, just raise it back up and call it a day.

dude just part out. you will get ALOT more money. and make some back on the mods you bought. go to the F/S section. people here are always buying stuff on here. i know i am lol

when the dad who is buying his daughter a car sees a new suspensions and rims on a import car the first thing he is going to think is the car has been abused. Rims to a lot of people are for the "minorities and stupid kids." You dont see to many ppl over the age of 35 with rims on their cars. My supervisors drive a g35 an sti and a 350z all of them have stock rims. If he sees a stock car thats clean and detailed he will think its a daily driver that was well taken care of. Sorry to say there are a lot more ppl who think civics are wanna be race cars than people who know they are the slowest cars in the world. If i were you i would have my dad or an uncle sale it. I would never admit an 18 year old drove or modded anything i was trying to sale. Just tell your dad or uncle to talk to the buyers and say he wants to get a new hybrid to help the enviroment so he is getting rid of his civic.

I am not taking the leather out of the car but I paid 1000 to have it installed. I know the car isnt that moded, so for now im selling it as is and Ill see what happens. I know people look down upon mods but maybe some highschool kid will be interested in buying it with a head start. The sad part is the car hasnt been driven hard at all but not too many people are going to believe that from an 18 year old.

I dont feel like taking more time to try to parting it out. I found a new car I want and I want it as soon as I can get it.

Just know your car man, so when people ask you can tell them anything they want to know, a well educated person about their car is a +. Shows they know what they have done to it and taken care of it, show that there is no scratches or rust on it. Also make sure you detail the crap out of it. Also if you had records of your oil changed then that will also show you cared.

most highschool kids dont have 1k let alone 15k. Face it the market you are trying to target is tiny. And more than likely if a student does buy it dad's money will pay for it, and dad will want to see the car first. lets say it takes 8 hours to part it out and you make 1000 + get the stock parts on the rims and leather then sale the car at 15,300. or you can sale it as is for 10-13k. in 8 hours of parting your car out you made anywhere from 3-6k. UNLESS YOU MAKE 375 DOLLARS AN HOUR PART THE CAR OUT

My acura dealer offered me 14,500 on trade without parting it out. The leather helped resale so its not an option of taking it out. I wish now that would have been the only thing I did to the car. Retail on a stock civics in my area are in the 16,500 range for an 04 with 26,000 miles on it.

I understand the market is tiny for my car but that is a chance I am willing to take.

Back to stock then sell it, sell all mods, not only will you get a greater return on the mods, but on the car itself. If don't have stock parts, trade mods for stock parts + cash. As has been said, all mods to a car (barring maybe the leather as you mentioned) set off alarm bells in people's heads. Even high-performance tires for example raise the question: why would someone install high performance tires on a car if they intended to drive it normally? The stocker the better, I wouldn't even leave an aftermarket deck in my car if I was selling it IMHO, even tints irk some people most of the time if they're buying a car, they just assume that 'some kid owned it who beat the hell out of it'.

I am going to give it 3 weeks selling it as is right now and if it doesn't go good I may sell the parts. Really the only thing to sell is the suspension and the wheels+tires.


If I have that much trouble trying to sell it I may just put some more money into it and keep it. I am just trying to sell so I can buy the 06 TSX nav.
