Ported Throttle Body Installed

I finally got the throttle body back from www.maxbore.com and put it on right away. Well looking at the pic, I saw that the idle adjust screw is useless, since the lever is sitting against the actual throttle body. Also there is no play between the throttle cable lever. Turns out this isn't really a problem as long as the cable has a small amount of play (I set mine to about 1/4inch where I could move it left and right without opening the valve). I also tightened the cruise cable so the black lever for it was also almost touching the throttle lever. Okay VERY IMPORTANT if you do this, make sure you are using the correct throttle body for your car. Auto and manual tranny have DIFFERENT throttle bodies. So if you buy one here, make sure its the same.

Gains: Well at first I had some idle surging problems, but that was fixed after I did the idle learn. It still sticks a tiny bit when the rpms go down after revving, but only for a second. It doesn't affect driving. Overall I would say this is a good mod. It feels like it did when I had the typhoon intake on. There is a tad more power across the rpm band. Since I'm using the stock airbox, I had to trim the rubber mount around the throttle body to accomodate the extra porting. The good news is the intake manifold was already ported larger. So this new throttle body matches the intake mani port exactly. Anyway, here is a pic. You can see how the levers are almost touching.

looks nice gear so why dont you put the typhoon intake on and then see how it goes, and then the intake mani should be nice to. how much did you bore it out to.

well just the tb and exhaust. the head is coming off summertime and so is the header. Oh for the other guy, the intake will be limiting because it has a smaller diameter pipe compared to this tb.

what were the gains and where's the pics?

btw, was it hard to install?

hmm, i checked the maxbore site and they said they only do service and don't provide...so where can you buy a manual throttle body?

well you're supposed to send your own but that means no driving for a week... i'll try and get installed pics up. gains well not very noticable but the gears in my auto are stretched out a bit more so it doesn't shift as early as it used to. I think with a turbo it would be more noticable but still with na you're getting more air in.

i'm quoting this from another thread:
simply boring it out will increase the flow capacity of the throttle body... but if you have an intake manifold that doesn't flow much, you can bore out the throttle body all you want, and those extra airflow wont do much.

hence an aftermarket intake manifold may be necessary... although thats another thing that isn't so simple... simply bolting on a higher flowing intake manifold wont necessary yield bolt-on gains too. (as evident by those that have slapped on the KMS intake manifold)
so i was wondering, if you get a bored throttle body, would an aftermarket CAI or short ram be necessary? i was hoping i wouldn't need to because i don't like the added noise and i'm okay with the K&N drop in filter

thanks

they are talking about the intake manifold which is actually the piece under the throttle body. in our case, the intake manifold port is already larger than the stock throttle body. when you get the throttle body ported, it will match the intake manifold perfectly. as far as intakes, yes the metal tube designs like K&N and AEM have a pipe diameter that matches the stock throttle body diameter. so unfortunately these designs will not be as good. thats why i'm trying the weapon-r intake it has a connection tube that goes from 3 inch to 2.5 inch of the throttle body so there is no worry of it not being big enough if that makes sense. or you can keep the stock intake and trim the rubber ring to accomodate the larger tb like i have now. i'll try and get pics but i'm super busy now.

So when i put my throttle body on my stock intake will not fit?
