uber noob question: d17 = vtec engine?

uber noob question: d17 = vtec engine?
i believe the amaturness of this question goes below (beyond) anything i found using search. "xxx for d17" "the true verdict on d17" but a simple question: what is a d17? Oh so noob, i know - but i'm still catching on to the forum / civic slang... Sorry guys... help me out? Thanks!
the motor
d-series motor (all honda motors have a name like this, b-series d-series k-series)then....
17 (1.7 liters, before the d17 was d16 in 96-00 civics which was a 1.6 liter sized engine, all honda motors are also like this, b18 1.8L f22 2.2L r18 1.8L)
after d17 will be a1 or a2, a1 and a2 are the cylinder head (part on top of motor with valves and camshaft and stuff in it) the a1 is lx/dx cars and doesnt have vtec, the a2 is the ex civic which has vtec.
some motors like the b-series vary alot, b16's b18's b20's for instance b18 there are some like b18c5 which is the integra type r motor, the b18c1 is same block but different head.

FBM is a BMX company. Their slogan used to be "***** f'ing fbm", lol. Props on the guesses though.
