I've actually got a complete headlamp assembly from an '04 Maxima with HID(d2s). Unfortunately, I only have one. I could easily acquire a second. Sorry to hijack, but what would be the best headlamp to start with for a retrofit?

Looks like it's aimed bit too high, well maybe because of driveway angle.

just curious.......................with those $72 headlights, are they rated for that much heat. I have those same ones and with HIDs installed in them they may melt

rjngo> projector based HIDs typically have that nice cutoff.. reflector based HIDs don't.

jason7973675> i think the headlights will be fine. HIDs are rated at 35W while Halogen bulbs are rated at 55-65W. However, you'll have trouble fitting a d2s bulb in the h1 projector that comes with the headlight. Gotta do a retro.

you must remember that HID capsules do not distribute heat the same way that halogen bulbs do. this is why even if the bulb reaches a temperature of 450F (or was it C...), it will all be concentrated in the capsule, not affecting the headlight housing.

my friend had those xenon bulbs (fake hid) on his 2000 civic si and it caught his headlight on fire, burned a hole thru his fiberglass hood and took the paint off his fender and burnt a bunch of wires and stuff inside the engine

probably was due to bulbs that were >60/55w. that's what happens when you don't use a wiring harness.

more or less, yes. it will have a cutoff. will it be definable on the road? probably not. if you drive up close to a wall, then you will be able to see where the light "steps" up from left to right like so:

____________/-----------/-------------
