the owner of the local nissan dealer, jaremko nissan, was a racecar driver in the past, and in the autocrosses locally he races a stock se-r with some hoosiers, and dominates his class everytime, even the stage 3 srts and sr-swapped 240s. and he says its an awesome car too. the guy owns a nissan dealership, and his daily driver is a sentra.
That is not an ordinary rabbit tis the most foul cruel beast

^agree with whitecastle. i love the older style spec-v's and i was sooo close to get one until my parents decided not to buy it. but i would say go for it. i heard all good things about nissan cars.
if your looking for a performance vehicle, i think it'd be a great oppurtunity.
i personally wouldnt just because gas prices are damn high in CA. i cant afford fast cars and make them even faster

^^^ I agree w/ jttegx, i would go for it because it's an upgrade in performance over a civic, but gas is killer in california (and probably around the nation)... average is about $2.60 here in sacramento!!

you know, we complain about gas prices being ~$2.50, but i was watching top gear the other day, and the host dude (jeremy?) was saying how in the UK, gas is about $8-9 per gallon.
i would say go for the sentra. it's nice.

i test drove a spec v before i bought my civic.. i loved to how fast it was and stuff.. but i just hated the way it looks.. i even could have got it for 15k with the brembo brakes package and upgraded exhaust.. but... i just felt it looked like something my grandma would drive.. so thus i have my civic.. but if you dont care about looks.. deff get it.. no questions about it.. also ask about the brembo package.. you could probably get it also..

The spec v is pretty fast, and six speed too. Go with the spec v that came out just before this new one, looks like theres only a difference in the grill. The sad part about it is that they require super unleaded gas, says so on the gas door.

living in new york with the price at about $2.60 for premium.. it means it will cost me a little more to drive .... as for looks it looks ok to me..
basically its all about the power and features for the price...hell i would get an srt4 if it was 15K new (flame suit on)

Yeah...Nissans are great cars....engine wise. I had a maxima before my civic, and man i would have NEVER sold it but it had a bunch of minor nagging bitchy problems. Plus since it was a v6...the 93 octane killed. I agree with the others, the front of the new VSPEC looks stupid. I hate that chrome patch.... if you want the speed...go with the sentra. Looks wise...I'd pick the civic.

Yup. I actually traded my 04 SpecV for my 02 Civic. I drove it for 7 months, and put 6k on it (from new), so I have some experience with it
Pro:
It's fast on dry ground.
Con:
It's not heavy enough to get traction on wet ground-very embarassing.
Pro:
It's got great 17" wheels and a sticky-tight suspension.
Con:
On the freeway, it feels like you don't have any suspension at all. Dental work? Not for long.
(this was a HUGE one for me)
Pro:
It's got a 2.5L engine.
Cons:
That's LOUD and gets at most 20/24mpg. Requires 91octane.
Pro:
It's got a six speed (brag about this one , I guess).
Con:
It shifts like a stick in a bag of rocks. Even with Redline in the gearbox, you can't quick-shift. I was locked out of 6th several times-you have to stay in 5th gear for about 3-5 seconds before upshifting. Also, I was locked out of Reverse a number of times too. I had to daisey 4th-then-1st-then R. VERY irritating.
Pro:
It's seats are VERY huggy.
Con:
Mine ripped (the fabric is weak, and stretched).
Read the reviews on Edmunds.com. The quality of the car leaves a lot to be desired.
If all you care about is speed, go for it. Just realize what you are getting into, especially after the whoohoo! factor has worn off.

i test drove a spec-v back in 03. it was a fun car to drive.
just a heads up, i'm pretty sure they've addressed the problem, but didn't they have oil issues in the earlier models? like oil just disappearing?

the Se-R was my dream car, from ever since I saw it at the Autoshow. Unfortunately I didn't get the car b/c the dealers wanted too much for it at the time. Fortunately, however, I got a CIVIC, lol. My brother has a 200sx SE-R and that thing is fast, so I'd say go for it. I love Nissans!

yeah, K power is what you want....eh screw it, get a k24, don't waste your money on a spec v. I guess no one has heard about the big problem with one of the cats breaking down, and having ceramic go into the motor, frying rings, and the car burning oil like crazy. I guess that is why they have a 60k warranty, my buddies wife just got a brand new motor in her spec v, also, the interior is cheap. The paint cannot handle much of anything besides soap and water. Our honda paint is way better, and doesn't scratch nearly as easily

i know this site can be bias... but here is a list of problems i had in one year with my car
dash and consol lights frying out
AC thermal switch needed to be replaced
check engine light just turned on today.. getting looked at on wed.
not to mention 3 different honda dealerships (all president award winners... i think they just hand that award out to all the dealers)
of every other car i have ever owned this one is the newest and most problematic...
i'm sorry guys but i think honda's quality has gone really down hill in the last few years and i think this will be my first and last honda.

what everyone says about the interior being cheap is completely true. my sister has a sentra and it feels like a rental car. the quality just isnt there, but like everyone says, if you want speed, then go for it...
