Rep Power: 257 Finished my head swap....
After 10 hours of bitching and bleeding im done with the head swap. I ran into a few problems like getting the timming right, having the gasket for the vtec soleniod leak and forgetting to plug back in a sensor. Over all it was pretty easy just really time consuming. Im running a vafc2 for the vtec instead of a ex ecu and i set vtec for 4700. The cross over is alot more then i expected. Its pretty loud and i deff feel a diff. I know it sounds kinda dumb from a sohc vtec but its alot more then i expected. I would deffinatly suggest this mod to any dx/lx owner. Ill get some pics up 2morow of my vafc2 mount and the engine bay.
By the way im throwing no check lights and it runs very smooth.
Total cost of project-190(head)240(vafc2)74(oem head gasket)10(egr valve gasket)
vtec

Rep Power: 355 nice and a few suggestions for ya.
put the vtec at 4200rpm
and make your wide throttle
pre vtec engagement at about -3/-4
and hi cam engagemnet from 4200 +3
4600 +4
5000 +5
5400 +6
5800 +7
run +7 all the way from there
im running the same setup and it runs alot better
and run your precentages at 30%/80%
workoff that and tune to yours it'll help and feel better. you won't be running so lean at hi cam engagement.

It's just a head swap nothing is changed on the intake manifold/throttle body.

Rep Power: 0 Very nice. Id like to see a dyno of an LX vs a LX w/ Ex head swap. Thinking of doing it sometime... ( even tho my mom wil rape me after the $$$ i poured into my last cars engine but the stock engine just sucks...)
Id like to see wat a LX/Vtec head with I/H/E and a crower cam would run... think thats gunna be my setup after i get outa school... maybe some nitrous...

Rep Power: 257 i would do crower cam but that would involve taking the head off and putting the cam in, then putting the head back on with a new head gasket....to much work and money

10-4. Ive searched for info on the LX to EX header swap and a lot of people said that they had to cut part of the engine mount for it to fit. And I also red a lot of people were not too pleased with the performance of the DC header. Personally I dont know but you might want to ask some people about that.........

Rep Power: 355 First time I did the swap (EX OEM head to PNP EX head) it took 12 hours by myself. Second time I did it I pulled it off in 4. The best way to keep timing is ziptie the cam gear to the belt (which only goes on one way anyway due to the key). The most pain in the *** part are the intake bolts and the bracket that holds the intake on (accessed from under the car). Thank God I had a lift the second time. Oh, lining up the gasket with the plug for the oil galley is also a pain in the ***. Thats a lot of dough for a gasket. I have friends who work there and I snagged intake AND head gasket for $35 after tax, so retail can't be THAT bad. Although the head studs are stretch bolts I reused mine twice with zero compression issues.

Rep Power: 355 Probably. Could you believe it's plastic? lol What a piece of shi+. The middle bolt on the intake was a bitch. I used one of the self ratching box wrenches.
