I just bought 4 new BFGoodrich g-Force Sports. Paid $550 after tax and shipping... not too shabby, right? So, I get them mounted and balanced along with a badly needed four wheel alignment. $223 after tax... yea its alot, but its the only alignment shop around worth a damn. Now... I am really happy that my car is driving well, has lots of grip and is generally looking alot better (my old tires were worn to the cords because I'm poor).
I notice this morning one of my tires looks funny. I go up to check it out and notice a gash about 4" wide across the tread. You can fit two fingers in and touch the metal dish of my rim. Guess I need a new tire. I now have to take off both rear tires so I don't unevenly wear the one side... in the rain... after borrowing a car from our used car lot to drive 30 min back home to get two stock tires - ain't this a great story so far? New tire = $136 shipped from TireRack. Mount and balance one tire = $26 from the same damn shop.
Now of course I notice that I have two stripped wheel studs when swapping around tires. That means I have to tear apart then entire wheel hub and strut to get them out. That means I need a both front wheels aligned. Again. $100 more dollars for the alignment and $30 internal rate for replacing wheel studs.
So adding up this grand total catastrophe amounts to getting a new set of tires and an alignment for $1,065. Not such a good deal anymore is it?

I forgot to mention, the tires were mounted on Friday... The gash was discovered this morning. It seems I got it yesterday, but didn't notice I had a flat. Gotta love low profile tires, eh?

Eh... got the first set of 4 from a local shop... no warrenty - especially since I did actually run over something. Now I'm ordering a single tire from TireRack.
