Rep Power: 296 hey some people need to be informed =P. I learned about the hmong in school, but its difficult to describe them because they don't live in only one country. Most of them exist in china, but most chinese dont consider you chinese unless your Han chinese. So to most, there technically barbarians, at least thats what they were considered in the past. I don't know how their considered now.

Rep Power: 296 i think the closest comparison for hmong would be the European equivalent to jeap si's. Excuse my spelling, i forgot how to spell it. When the Europeans were carving up the world and forming names for countries, the hmong kinda go left out of the loop, so they don't really have a origin from the countries that exist today.

thanks...i couldn't remember the spelling. Easiest way to think about it is that their a group of asian's . Thats wtf a hmong is. There a lot of different kind of ethnic asians other then chinese, korean and japanese. The chinese, even have different kinds of chinese. Its just not well known, because we don't see them in movies or learn about them in history, but they exist. Either that or just take a asian studies course in college and you will learn about them.
Maybe someone whose hmong should clear this up and go back to the original intent of the thread and post some pics.

I didn't know about the Hmong community until I moved to Minnesota. There are tons of Hmong people in Saint Paul. It's almost like they have their own section of the city. I think the Hmong community only has 26 different last names and cannot marry someone with the same last name. Many of the Hmong people brought to Minnesota are from Refugee camps from Laos I think. They helped the CIA during the Laos war. This is info I’ve picked up from friends who are Hmong and from the science museum in Saint Paul.

Rep Power: 0 Hmong people live in the woods on the borders of southeast asian countries. It's true like someone stated that the ones in the US came from Laos cuz a lot of them are Laotian/Hmong. They really don't have their own country. I work with a couple of Laotian/Hmong people. There's a lot of them here in the North East too. Mostly around RI. See them all the time in the summer when I go fishing.
