ok so i got a letter in the mail from the dealer i bought my 01 sedan from and it basically says they need a bunch of used 01 civics for some reason

so they are offering a private sale to people with 01 civics for new 04 and 05 hondas.

im really happy with my vic right now except for the fact that its an auto. they said they would offer generous trade in values and discounted prices on the car. it also says that there would be little to no expense out of my pocket for the trade.

but i got one question if anyone else has been invovled in one of these dealer buy backs. do they really need used 2001 vics that bad? or is this just a way to get people to buy the new models?

it would be sweet if i can get a manual ex sedan or ep3 out of this.

Yes, this is a way to get you into a newer car, so you will still be paying for a longer time. It could be a good deal, but if you already paid for most of your car, then I wouldn't take it.

Remember though, the next gen is coming out soon, so you might want to think about those too, when it does however, they'll probably offer you less than what they're offering you now.

dann... they will give you the same amout of money for your civic as to some dude who came off the street with the same car. they're expecting you to go to the delaership with hopes and dreams for a new car but in the end you wont be getting anythign special...... here is how its gonna works

you go to the dealership trade in your car. as soon as you trade in your car they're gonna put it up for sale for 2k-3k more. then they're making making about 2.5k-3k (not 100% sure how much they make on brand new civic but its close) on the new civic they sell you. so right then and there they are gonna pocket about 5gs (give or take) off you just because they sent a letter

they find 10 people like you and they pocked close to 50gs

i worked for a dealership and this is how they operate... esspeically huge ones like Honda or Chevy.....

I'd just go in and check it out.. of course if u can go without anticipation of buying a new car and ONLY buy if you get a deal.. why not? I'd just check it out..

i remember a little while back that there was a thread talking about the exact same thing. from what i remember they were saying it was a scam to get you back in so they can sell you another car. there really is no discount and you'll just end up paying more and more money to them...i personally wouldn't do it.

I traded in my 01 for the 04. I could've gotten 2000 more selling it privately. I was just way too lazy to go out and look for a buyer but I regretted it after. To be honest with you, i even regret buying a civic agian...

ya i was at honda yesterday waiting on my cars oil to be changed(to lazy to do it, plus the headlights had a recall on them)... anyways i overheard a salesman talking about that.

well im gonna go anyways cuz they are gonna give me a 500 dollar honda gift certificate just for checking it out.

ive got 4 days to check it out from 3/03 to 3/06 it says i have to bring the letter and identification.
if anything i'll get 500 bucks worth of honda accesories

since i'm getting into a new honda in the next few days what they were offering for my trade, and 02 coupe ex, was actually less than the trade in values on kbb and edmunds by 700-1200 dollars. meanwhile when i said i was considering trading in my car they all said, when the found out what i had, how the dealers are looking to buy these cars cause they are so much in demand.

my gf got a letter from the dealership just like that 6 months ago. saying they wanted her car b/c there was a huge demand for them. i told her it was a way for them to make more $ off her.

she drives an 02 cavalier... NO demand for those that i've ever seen

yup just marketin. Its just a way to get you to come to the dealership. Like the $600 laptop best buy offer in the newspaper to get you to come to BB, then they sell you a $1200 laptop instead. I use to do it all the time when i use to work there. I hated it but that how sales work.
